Fixing the NG

There's a difference between "healthy discussion" and what's been going on
here as of late, which is both sides propagandizing - like the election
really hinged on *this* newsgroup, LOL.

No one is listening, everybody is just screaming "your guy sucks, my guy
rocks". This isn't healthy OT stuff, it mindless politikking in the breeze.
That's the difference.

So what your saying is that this newsgroup should stick to boating stories
or discussions ONLY.

Tell me something, when you sail your yacht over to another marina or boat
club, park it, go into the clubhouse for a few drinks and hear the table
beside you talking about something other than boats, are you going to
suggest to them that that type of conversation is not welcome there ? I
guess the obvious is due,,, if you dont like the posts that do not relate

to
boating, dont read them. Do you have a fee or maximum you are being

charged
by your server as to the number of postings you download ? I mean, I only
see maybe 5 or 10 posts per day on this group, sometimes more, some times
less. I can understand your point should this group get flooded with
postings.
No, what your trying to do is censorship, dont do that here, or dont do

that
there. I dont need anyone telling me what to say, when to say it, how to

say
it, when to have coffee break , when to ****, when to speak, when to do
anything. Maybe you need someone to hold your hand but give the rest of

use
more credit.

Ya but it is too easy for someone today to simply ignore what they want.
Does your software have an ignore function or screen function? Killfile? If
someone on here keeps posting rubbish that you cannot stand to look at,
simply killfile them.

While your intentions are sincere I doubt that a matter of a couple of
hundred votes is going to have any impact on the election.

Chuck Gould offered a nice solution to the problem. Read it in the thread
"Starting a new newsgroup".

I will be interested to see if everyone agrees on his solution, especially
those Chuck names in his post. As I said, I am in, but will bow once the
agreement is breached by one of the "Dirty 7", as well as the likes of doug
kanter, Dave Hall, bb, JohnH, ignoramus and basskisser. ;-)

Since so many people here wish to impart partisan political influence, I
think the only thing to do is let them.

Therefore........ from this moment on I'll be looking at the originating

OT
posts to see if they come from the DNC or the GOP lackeys. I'm counting
hijacking an on topic thread to make it political as "originating" an OT
thread.

And I'll be voting for the party in November that originates the FEWER OT
posts. :p

Since so many here wish to sway hearts and minds - perhaps if enough

people
lined up with me, it would make them think.

JohnH? Why him? From what I've read in his posts, he comes across as one of
the good guys.

I like Chuck's idea and emailed him off NG about it. This NG is seriously
dwindling in membership because of the nasty comments and constant OT threads
(which can't really be avoided, since it's winter and our boats are all
winterized for the season).

.....just my humble opinion. Take it for whatever it's worth.

I agree with what you say about John. Although well mannered in his
replies he does involve himself in quite a number of OT posts. The purpose
of the agreement is to curtail the OT posts.

Perhaps the final solution is that the OT posts stop entirely or are brought
to an acceptable level.

I applaud Chuck for being honest in his post and his assessment of his
contribution to those posts. ;-)

If I want to talk politics, or any other subject I will find a group that
pertains to that subject.
I would bet that if there was less crap here we would see more posts from
new people. Now they pop in, see what a bunch of nuts hang around here and
leave.

I don't mind a little OT once in a while, but this "rec.boats.politics" has
gotten WAY out of hand. It takes me longer to mark posts "ignore" than it
does to read the pertainant posts! I am trying to decide if it worth my time
to even check the group. If I feel that way, and I have been hanging around
since June of 2001, what will a potential group newby think??

I'm NOT "in". Those that have been here long enough will recall when
the spamming OMC dealers were raging, a "truce" was offered for one month.

All we had to do was not be abusive & just say what technical things we
needed to say. I signed up & as soon as I had, the others just continued
& indeed made things even worse for me over the month it took to serve
out what I said I'd do. I was determined to honour the undertaking.

So don't kid yourself Jim, Harry the liar & his cohorts are scum & will
just take advantage of anything they can to continue the abusive OT
behaviour, & forget trying to pretend alice in wonderland style, that
he'll improve if other stop, as I know you already know he just gets
worse!!!

I intend defending myself & what I say, I've seen the great results
your current great president has had on the war against terror:-) so
think appeasement is for liars & cowards; or the french of course:-)

As a conservative's conservative who does vote in the United States, I
think your behavior on this forum does our cause great harm. You
constant refer to those who disagree with you as scum, liars and worse
and that sort of intemperate behavior does nothing to sway the
undecided.

Frankly, while I disagree with almost every political statement your
friend Harry Krause posts here, it is your behavior I find
disagreeable. You keep reposting hundreds of lines of your spin on
statements he has posted, you claim they are all lies, and yet you
offer no real proof of anything.

Are you having serious problems in your personal life that you must
attack others so viciously?

I admit I am a little over the edge in my conservative political
beliefs, but knowing that I poke a little fun mostly at myself and
sometimes at others, but always with a smile.

You aren't smiling.
