Very easy to trip over a double standard and land smack on your nose. It sounds to me like you are doing the exact same thing you accuse the "right" of doing. Many conservatives find the right wing radio host boring and predictable, and do not listen to them, but still consider themselves conservatives. I disagree, since I work with and count as personal friends many who consider themselves conservatives who consider Rush a buffoon. I'm certain that Chuck has a similar experience. Conversely, there's a number of fools in this group who utter dittospeak on regular occasions, regular enough to recognize their Rush/Savage/Coulter political pedigree. I don't ever listen to any of those people, yet I get accused of parroting them on a regular basis. Believe it or not, most conservatives can come to the same opinion all on their own. All you have to do is apply a little logic and reason to any situation. I'd surmise that *most* conservatives are left-brained people...and most liberals are right-brained (and sometimes no-brained) people. |

jps,
If you read my post you would find that you are agreeing with me, not disagreeing with me. I too find all of the talk radio hosts to be buffoons who are not entertaining. My complaint with them, is they like to talk about being balanced and unbiased, but they love to control and cut off anyone who disagrees with them. My point was that Gould thought all conservatives listen to and agree with the "talking heads on TV and Radio. When he made that statement he was guilty of doing the exact same thing he was accusing conservatives of doing. You are correct that there are some people who believe every word uttered by their favorite talking head, it does not mean that all or even most conservatives do. Ignorant people on both sides of the political fence like to find someone else to do their thinking and they repeat there favorite buzz words and phrases. You will find both the conservative and the liberals who are guilty of this. I notice that in this NG there are favorite buzz words "borg", "Nazis", etc used to demonize the enemy. The only people I know who like to parrot the talk radio folks are not
capable of thinking for themselves, and they are on both sides of the political fence. I have seen studies that show a substantially higher percent of college educated people are conservative and a substantially higher percent of those who vote democratic have only completed high school or less. That sure seems logical. The audience for Limbaugh, Savage, etc is made up of Phd's? Must be primarily uneducated Democrats listening to those radio shows, since, as you observed, people capable of independent thought don't need to be spoon-fed a philosophy. |

The numbers are more even for those with "graduate degrees". Interestingly, I saw a story the other day that said that women are more likely to vote Democrat as they achieve higher levels of education...and men are more likely to vote Republican as they achieve higher levels of education. They go in the complete opposite direction!? The only conclusion I could reach from this is that Harry has a vagina. and a substantially higher percent of those who vote democratic have only completed high school or less. Actually, having completed high school makes someone more likely to vote Republican. Having *less* than a high school diploma makes someone more likely to vote Democrat. |

Gould,
In reference to my black and white comment, no one is saying that all conservatives are smart and all democrats are dumb. It is also important to realize that a vast majority of conservatives do not listen to the talking heads. It is also important to realize that many of the listeners to Rush Limbaugh et all are liberals and moderates. The "talking heads" are in the business of generating an audience and pushing hot buttons. It does not matter if you agree or disagree as long as you listen. "Gould 0738" wrote in message ...
