There is no good estimate of the denominator. For many folks, the symptoms are no worse than a cold, and the illness never gets reported. Wife seems to have flu, and we had flu shots. Doctor on video chat figured flu. COVID is a version of SARS, so most likely the death rate is higher. And older people have more breathing problems anyway. We're losing 4-10K per month to the flu. Doesn't make the news though. But look at the percentage. 34 million cases with 20 thousand deaths is .05%. cOVID-19 is 1-8% deaths. 34 million at 2% would be 680,000 deaths.
