Proposed changes are not law yet and won't affect 2017 taxes at all.

I know, I know...darn it. Would have liked to see the impact. According to our resident tax cheat
I'll be poor. Oh well.

Unless you have a *lot* of deductions you'll probably come out ahead
by a little.

Well, I do live in a high property and income tax state.

===

Florida beckons. :-)

We do have lots of golf courses. Sorry about the summer weather but
you can tow your trailer north for that.

It is not the "summer weather" that is the problem here if you are in
DC. It gets hotter in DC in July and August. They will miss the spring
and fall tho, assuming 85 is too hot for you. Personally I loved the
spring and fall in Florida even when I was there.
John might really be happy in a gated community with Golf tho. The
ones across the river from me have excellent golf with reciprocal
agreements with dozens of other courses in the area. They also have a
private ramp, easy gulf access and on site storage.
I do not know of any place with waterfront lots and golf tho.

I will probably come out ahead. I think I have had to use standard
deduction the last couple years. Real estate tax is $2700 and state taxes
about to the standard deduction level. I do get charity deductions.

So do I. But I am limited on the property tax deduction because of prop
13 and owning the house for almost 40 years.

I'd be out of this state in a heartbeat if I could get my wife to go along with the idea. Either
Florida or North Carolina would be my choice.

For me, the fall is 'leaf disposal', nothing more. This fall has been especially nerve wracking
because I can't do the blowing and lugging to get the leaves into the street.
