It was usually foo foo folks with wine and cheese but when Buffett did his show there, no coolers. They let me have my little picnic jug but I had to dump it out on the grass. I still have the jug, with the sticker on it. I didn't save all of the junked tapes. There are a few of his songs that I have bought a half dozen times already so I don't feel bad about skimming them off of an MP3 site. It is a little funny but when they were selling little bits of plastic, it was all about the plastic. There was no talk about buying the rights to the music and no credit for defective bits of plastic. A new copy costs exactly the same as the bad one, even if you trade it in. Now that we don't need the plastic, it is all about the rights to the music but didn't I get the rights to that music when I bought the vinyl, the 8 track, the cassette AND the CD? Even Bill Gates, the king of intellectual property would replace defective or obsolete media for free or later a small copy/media charge. Screw those *******s. All of them. I have no problems paying for new content from struggling artists but those old farts who have sold me that song two or three times already can kiss my ass. |

I bet you can get all you want on alt.binaries,sounds.mp3.1940s You just laid yourself wide open, young man! Why is that? There are folks here who would jump all over one who downloads a 'bootleg' song! (Don't ask how I know that.) Jump away. If Glenn shows up, I will give him a penny or whatever his royalty was on his songs in 1944. Call it my act of civil disobedience. I don't think it is right that the patent on a product that changes the world expires in 17 years but Rick Dees will get a royalty on "Disco Duck" for 75 years or more. It is particularly frustrating when you are talking about old Motown artists who died in poverty and the record company fat cats still get a quarter every time their songs are played. If this is a new artist, I buy it from Amazon. If it is an old crook like Jimmy Buffet, I steal it. That prick still owes me for all of those cheap cassettes I bought that wadded up in a couple weeks and a bottle of 12 year old scotch his thugs made me pour out at Wolf Trap. Damn, that last makes any amount of bootlegging his songs a legitimate venture! -- Ban idiots, not guns! |

I have to admit to feeling the same way about Amazon charging 12.95 to download a kindle book. Hell, the paperback is cheaper, and it had printing costs. I don't have a E reader but I would not be shocked if it is there. I do find plenty of technical books online including a bunch of military manuals. One if the first thing I did when I got my M1A was download the armorer's manual for the M14. I assume I paid for that in my taxes tho. My wife gets a whole lot of free books from Amazon and some for a buck or two. She can also "lend" them to other people. They have a gang of book swappers. I think only one can be active at a time tho. (not sure about how any of this works) This is all on an android reader. |
