Gonna be in the low 30's this week.
I didn't get to finish the 23' Marquis this year But the 18' Chris Craft was always ready. Got to take it out to Carlyle lake a dozen or so times this summer. Always a blast but time to put it away for the winter. Well it was fun while the weather held... |

I'll put it at the end of the driveway up on blocks and erect the Navigloo shelter over it for the next 6 long months. |

It's strange to think that even here the summers seem so short and the winters so long...

I was told it was 20 below zero, Fahrenheit, and that if you peed outdoors, it would freeze before it hit the ground. ![]() -- “There’s more idleness and abuse of government favors among the economically privileged than among the ranks of the disadvantaged.” - Norman Mailer |

By the way, a belated Happy Veterans Day to you. |

In the mid 80's I grew a beard and told my wife I was gonna shave it off on January 1. I did. And the next weekend it got down to -23 with a 30 mi wind. Talk about a glass jaw. WOW!

My brother spent 3 summers in the Antarctic as a SeaBee. Said it got -70f during summer storms. They could not drive the snowcats as the tracks would break due to cold. Winter, the Russians had the alcohol thermometer freeze at -125. Coldest I think I ever felt was a bright sunny day at the 1960 Winter Olympics. Did not have warm snow boots and was about 5F. Have been in colder weather, but better equipped. |

Taking a warm coat to Chicago is just a trick. It fools you into thinking you can actually go outside. You are supposed to stand under the IR heaters outside the hotel, dive into a Checker and run inside when you get where you are going Years ago I flew into Chicago one January. Rental was running when I picked it up at the airport, so I drove to the hotel and parked it. Next morning I went out to start it, and it barely clicked. Was -30, and with windchill close to -60! Three days later the car finally cranked, it got up to 5 degrees and it actually felt pretty good outside. You nawthuners can have it. |
