I'm not convinced that getting rid of ammo hoarders would be "needless..." ![]() You say you have a 'few boxes' so is than not 'hording' I mean, where's the line? If low enough, you'd go too, Harry... ?;^ ) The current round of "hording" ammo started due to concerns that political pressures would restrict both gun ownership and ammo availability. Then the closure of the only lead smelting plant in the US in 2010 led many to erroneously believe that lead would no longer be available for ammunition manufacturing. This is not true. Virtually *all* the lead used for ammo is from recycled supplies ranging from automotive wheel weights, fishing weights and ballast. There's a surplus of lead around and the ammo manufacturers won't run out anytime soon. I remember when I first started going to the range. I didn't have much ammo for each gun and would typically shoot up whatever supply I had knowing I could easily restock. At the height of the current shortage, I'd buy whatever I could find, so I guess I contributed to the hoarding. It seems to be easing now. The shelves at my favorite gun shop are getting full again and quantity restrictions on some calipers have ended. |
