Texting Triggers Fatal Movie Theater Shooting
Jan. 13, 2014

An argument between two couples over text messaging inside of a Florida
movie theater turned deadly today that left one man dead and a woman
wounded.

Police said that two couples began arguing before a showing of "Lone
Survivor" over one couple's text messaging.

A male suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, became angry
and took out a gun and shot the other couple, according to the Pasco
County Sheriff's office.

"The victim was on his cellphone, he was texting. We believe he was
making some kind of noise. This noise led to an altercation," Sheriff
Chris Nocco said, according to ABC News affiliate WFTS. "During that
altercation, the suspect decided to pull out a .380 and he shoots the
victim."

The sheriff's office said in a statement that an unnamed "good
Samaritan" helped detain the suspect until police arrived.

The two victims were airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, where the man
was pronounced dead and the woman is being treated for non-life
threatening injuries, according to police.

The shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m. today at the Cobb Grove 16
Theater in Wesley Chapel, Fla., north of Tampa.

Police noted that the shooter and victims did not appear to know one
another.

Well, that didn't take long. So much for the new, improved rec.boats.

What? It wasn't political, nor was it insulting to any poster here. It
was...an example of evolution in action.

The shooter apparently felt threatened by the guy who was texting.
Perfectly understandable. The texter should have known better.

There was another example of evolution in Chicago. Some moron dropped
his cell in the Chicago river and apparently went in after it, and he
and a girlfriend, at least, drowned.

America is drowning in its own stupidity.

Another attack on Americans? Why?

Actually, FlaJim, I'm perfectly happy living in the United States. I'd
be perfectly happy living in any of a handful of other countries, too.

I find it amusing you are so obsessed with my wife. You bring her up
frequently. She *is* a smart, well-educated woman of significant
accomplishment.

Do you have a wife? If you do, I can't recall an occasion here in which
you discussed her or any of her accomplishments. What does she do or
what did she do during her career? How about children? Do you have
children? If so, what do they do for a living?

You seem awfully secretive about your life and your family, but awfully
eager to discuss the families of others.

Why is that?

It's no irritation to me that you are so impressed with my wife's
accomplishments you see fit to keep bringing them up. It is a source of
amusement, however, that you are so secretive about your family and so
eager to discuss the families of others.

So, do you have a wife? What does she do or what did she do during her
career? How about children? Do you have children? If so, what do they do
for a living?

No one is asking for *personal* information, FlaJim, such as names,
addresses, et cetera. One of my adult children works as a college
professor and another works as a researcher at the LC.

Isn't this pleasant? I have a nice, conversation tone and you respond by
engaging in personal name-calling.

If memory serves, John, and it might not, I think you mentioned several
times that your wife was a federal employee, and that you have a son or
son in law in the military.

How *personal* is that?

Do you find it revealing and ironic that there are posters here who go
out of their way to attempt to insult the spouses or children of other
posters, and yet are so secretive about their own spouses or children?

How many times over these many years has anyone here said anything nasty
about your spouse? I don't recall any such incidents. *I* in fact have
over the years mentioned any number of times how nice and gracious your
wife was. Were you offended by that?

Yabut, the sharing or not sharing of any information is the right and up
to the poster. Frankly, I try to be a little careful about how much
info I share in a newsgroup considering the number of people who can see
it who probably never post to rec.boats. Think about it. Google groups
and the numerous web based forums that copy and republish "rec.boats"
makes the total audience fairly large and world wide.
