In article , says... The new, alternate website took money to create, electricity to host, and has to be monitored for hacks. You didn't know that? Your argument falls apart. Wow. Now displaying a website splash page is equal to linking to terrabytes of data servers, handling queries, doing internal/external data retrievals, etc, etc But I guess lefty deadbeats figure if that's the equation it takes to make it all a "free" government entitlement, so be it. Damn, you guys do love those freebies. BTW, an offline server can't be hacked. Psst, hey buddy. The government is handing out free stuff! Getcha some! None of that stuff is shut down, it's just not available to the average joe.. As Wayne points out, you can bet gov agencies and law enforcement still have access. That server with the "splash" page is sitting in the same center as the rest of the original website, unless you think they went out and created a new center to host this temporary site? The rest is still intact, because no one in their right mind would shut it down just to bring back up in a few days. That would be a huge bonehead move, as that would cost far more than the electricity to keep it up. Traffic has just been re-directed. Oh, and what's "free"? I pay a lot of federal taxes each year for these services. The rest of your stuff is just thrashing around with nothing to say. |

Bull****, they still have the server running You should pay a personal visit to wherever you think the servers are and give us a full report. |

The weather pages are still up http://www.srh.noaa.gov/mob/ http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/?atlc Well, I think it would be a terrific public service if you and W'hine spend your time keeping track of all the federal government websites, and let us know which are or are not working at a given moment. Unlike the people up north, we watch storms and prepare BEFORE they come kick our ass. Yeah, right. Sure. I was in SE Florida the day after Andrew, taking photos, doing interviews, and helping in the preparation of a report about what sorts of buildings failed and why. Not much preparation was evident. |

BTW the "full report" from the boat board where they actually talk about boats is that ALL of the NOAA web site is up, they just dicked up the index page. If you know the URL of the page you want, it is there. BAO is full of **** as usual Are you having problems getting weather reports from NOAA? I'm not. |

That was 20 years ago. Out of curiosity, That report you were a helper on; did it lead to any changes of any kind that helped improve building codes and construction methods? Or was it just another meaningless fluff piece that ended up un the round file. |

Agreed So there are 2 lefties here who think government servers are "free," and don't incur costs that are billed to the U.S. Government. No taxpayer money involved. Nice little fantasy world, I guess. Crazy as hell, but who am I to judge? The website is up! Just not giving any service. |
