Default Photographer Captures Stunning Killer Whale Attack on Dolphin

http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2013/05/killer-whale-flips-dolphin/?pid=6824

Dolphins are so fast, intelligent and agile that it is hard to believe
that they could be hunted and killed by another marine mammal but it
turns out that the orcas are pretty smart also, and they hunt in
packs.

Wow, at the end of his flipping the dolphin around, it looked like the orca was waiting for
applause!

Why is the water a little out of focus and the mammals are so sharply
focused?

I'm guessing of course, but most likely because it was shot with a
long telephoto lens that has limited depth of field. It's also
possible that the whole thing was photo shopped but Wired magazine is
fairly reputable and most certainly savvy regarding the fine art of
photo doctoring.

About 15 years ago while trolling for salmon off San Juan Island a pod
of 6-8 Orcas passed by. Some passed directly below and others surfaced
just off the sides. I felt pretty vulnerable in a small 16' sled, it
was clearly their domain.
