Default 1st time boat owner getting insurance

Rick:
The first step is to gain some credibility. You can do this by completing
some sailing certification courses. They get you started on the right foot
and also assure the Insurance company that you're determined to leave the
dock and return safely.
The ASA or American Sailing Association is where my wife and I started years
ago. It was the best time and money we could have spent. We completed about
5 courses each, sailed a couple years and then Boat US covered our first
boat, a 1985 30' Islander.
Keep your enthusiasm and keep going. It's really worth it.

I'm thinking of buying my first boat and I'm interested in a 36' Hunter. I
asked for a quote from United Marine Underwriters, but I was declined due

to
the size of the boat and no previous boat ownership experience.

Does anyone know of an insurance company that will help 1st time big boat
owners?

Rick
