Thanks for the reply. At this point I'd just like to be able to get basic
insurance so I can buy a boat. I've taken classes (I have my ASA Basic
Coastal Cruising and Bareboat Chartering certification) and I have sailed
big boats with captains several times.
I am familiar with biger boats, but obviously not having owned one I need
more experience. I like the bigger boats, I'd hate to have to buy a smaller
boat just to get experience "Owning a boat".
Thanks again for your reply,
Rick

Try Boat/US.
They have three levels of insurance, the difference being in how extras
are covered, and
whether depreciation is computed. So if you get the cheap version, don't
complain when
they tell you your dinghy outboard was depreciated below the deductible
level. They are
very good in disaster situations - my cousins had their boat helicopter'd
out of a swamp
the day after Hurricane Bob.

I'm thinking of buying my first boat and I'm interested in a 36' Hunter.
I
asked for a quote from United Marine Underwriters, but I was declined
due to
the size of the boat and no previous boat ownership experience.
Does anyone know of an insurance company that will help 1st time big
boat
owners?
