There's really no hope for this newsgroup, not when it is
"inhabited" by

I think you are right, and I'm thinking about just giving up on this as
a place to post about and read about boats in an atmosphere of
fellowship, good will and relaxation.

There's no question that these "ID spoofers" as you call them want
nothing more than the complete destruction of this newsgroup. Perhaps if
their actual identifies were posted here, they'd have an incentive to
leave.

Sounds like you may need a more structured arena, this is google groups,
and part of the beauty of usenet is the freedom to speak anonymously
without fear of retribution... Outing someones real id is just a way to
stifle free speech and intimidate. It's the same as stalking or
threatening someones family in my opinon...


The ability to speak anonymously without fear of retribution falls flat
when the anonymous speakers are doing harm with nothing more than spite
as their motivator. With free speech comes responsibility.

I agree with Paul. The spoofers want to destroy rec.boats and will not
stop until they do. By giving them slack, you are supporting them.
