Now, why would they use mounted patrols to keep the suburbs of Halifax
in line? It's a bit of overkill if you ask me. Down here we use the
mounteds for riot and mob control. Do you have a lot of riot and mob
activity up there or is it just the way the government impresses their

The Mounties' name reflects its history. The organization is the federal
police force of Canada. The U.S. Army still has units named for their
calvary forebears, but I doubt they go into battle on horseback. Neither
do the Mounties, although I bet the group still has horses.
