It was a nice feeling to toss my gland nuts in the old parts bin.

I believe I received a spam mail on that very topic yesterday...

Hmmm, that didn't sound quite right.

Very few things nautical do. For some reason, a perfectly
straightforward discussion of workiing a ship can sound like
filthy-minded innuendo with a vaguely homosexual agenda. No one knows
why this is, except that it's a lonely life at sea.

Anyway, they work perfectly.

So, using a shaft puller allowed you to toss your old gland nuts and
finally yank out that slippery packing? And you drip no longer into
your greasy bilge, and pumping requires fewer strokes?

Of course. If the Pope sailed, he could say that with a perfectly
straight face. The tremor might increase, however.

But you can see why non-sailors find ours the kinkiest pursuit
imaginable, can't you? It sounds like the initiation rite to Skull and
Bones.

I won't even get into deck operations, with all that hardening up,
topping lifts, sheet cleating, grabbing the lazy guy and putting one's
meat on the rail in a wet blow.

Oh, dear.
