Burning a carload of coal (about 20 tons) will provide about 20 minutes of electricity in the average 1000 megawatt powerplant (that's the average turnover). Think about how much coal that adds up to - we now burn about 1 billion tons of coal in the U.S. to produce electricity. That alone produces 40 percent of all our 'greenhouse' gasses. All this would ACCUMULATE....IF WE WERE SEALED IN A BUBBLE! But, alas, WE'RE NOT! The solar wind is blasting the atmosphere with millions of tons of NEW GASES, continuously. Case in point: How much fossil fuel has man burned in the atmosphere since the cavemen discovered fire? Surely, by now, especially after the Industrial Revolution poured billions of tons of coal gas into the atmosphere, we should at LEAST be able to DETECT IT! IT'S NOT THERE....It just blew away! another case in point.... For a week after 9/11/01, all spewing commercial planes were grounded across the USA. Delta Airlines, ALONE, burns 9.4 BILLION gallons of kerosene every year! That's Billion with the B! Within a DAY, the air over South Carolina, on the downwind side of the country, was so blue it looked fake. ONE DAY! All the cars were still spewing it out, unabated, as America went about its business. All we had to do to clean the air is GROUND THE PLANES AND LET THE RICH USE THE PHONES. I've always thought this to be a great idea, personally, even when I lived on airplanes for the Navy and CG contractors. Just ground the planes and the air clears right up....without turning off the power to my house...without choking my cars. Ground the planes Algore flys on FIRST....then we'll talk...(c; |
