Now there you go confusing things for poor Wilbur, Jeff. He likes
everything
to be simple, with only one "right" answer--the one he thinks is
right.
Ambiguities like those you suggest will drive him to distraction.

No, I just consider the source. It's more to do with inference than
ambiguities. What Jeff infers is often a non sequitur. As the premises
spring from the source and the source is suspect then premise equals
moot point as concerns being driven to distraction. Simple unassailable
logic.

Ever heard of Dicken's "Mrs Malaprop"? Your use of the above terms
clearly illustrates the term "malapropism" and reveals your obvious
lack of a reasonable education. Pedantism is not an enviable
profession

you can look it up, but basically Wilbur's parents have been slurred.

Yah. T'was but a joke, son. The idea being...oh bugger it. ;-)

Are you an "Asterix" fan - Gosginny and Udzero?

Peter H

Wasn't before, perhaps now.

It was the Latin quote that brought it to mind - no I never "did"
Latin.

I am not sure if they are obtainable in the States, but they are an
excellent set of "comic" books describing the adventures of the main
hero "Asterix" and the other villagers of a small group of
"indomitable Gauls" holding out against the might of Caesar's Legions.

Originally written as an educational series for French children, they
have been translated into many, many languages since. They are
certainly not only for children. People of all ages are fans. The
molre you know, the more you will get from them.

Many of the names and much of the conversation are Latin puns. My
sister learned Latin at school and gets far more out of them than I
do. They are amongst our family's favourite books and are read by all
of us over and over again. each time getting something new from them.

The Druid "Getafix" brews a magic potion that gives the villagers
superhuman strength which they use to "bash' the Roman troops. Most of
the series are about the travels of Astewrix and Obelix - a menhir
delivery man about the world.

I know that if you read just one, you would be an addict forever.

Try to get one. You will not regret it.

cheers

Well, that may be so but there are a great deal of Moslems I have met
with my spelling of my name in Turkey, Egypt, Sudan, Yemen, Oman and
in Indonesia and Malaysia. This is the first I have heard of any
spelling of the name to be disrespectful

This is the first I had heard of that. I don't know if its specifically
British, or new political correctness. Of course, a newspaper style guide
is likely to be responsive to a vocal minority, so its not clear what the
meaning of "many" is.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/styleguide...184829,00.html
Muhammad
Muslims consider Muhammad to be the last of God's prophets, who delivered
God's final message. They recognise Moses and Jesus as prophets also.
The above transliteration is our style for the prophet's name and for most
Muhammads living in Arab countries, though where someone's preferred
spelling is known we respect it, eg Mohamed Al Fayed, Mohamed ElBaradei.
The spelling Mohammed (or variants) is considered archaic by most British
Muslims today, and disrespectful by many of them

Yeah, like there was a Jewish boy running around the Middle East named
"Jesus." It ain't even close to being phonetically correct.

Yes KLC,
He was a Jewish boy. for his entire life, he was never a Christian.

I was always confused as a kid by the many pictures of Jesus (we refer
to him as Isus ibn Mariam - the last often is spelled with a "y").

He was usually portrayed as having blonde hair, fair skin and bright
blue eyes. His outstretched hands were never calloused like other
carpenters.

I'll bet you didn't know that he is also the Moslem Messiah.
..
cheers

and they can rack ...ever sat a rack...it's really weird...

Beats the hell outta Lauri.

Wilbur Hubbard

Your ignorance and indefendable rudeness is appalling.

You obviously have never travelled overseas or come into contact with
any cultures other than your own. You are the epitome of the ugly
American who knows nothing of the world apart from his own immediate
surroundings and judges other cultures by his own narrow and
extremely limited view. I thank God that your type generally stay at
home.

To make fun of another person's name (who you have never met) which is
unfamiliar to your ears is childish and rather churlish to say the
least. If nothing else, it reveals your true nature as a pathetic,
insignificant little man who I can readily imagine would never have
the courage to verbalise in person the trite frass which he so bravely
pens to the web.

I would imagine that Lauri is more of a man than even you claim to be.
The North Sea is not a place for wimps.

I can well imagine that you are short in stature as well as in mind as
you display and reveal to the world obvious symptoms of "short man's
disease"

Get a life

Besides, just how manly is your pseudonym - "Wilbur" What has a Wilbur
ever done?

Mahommed Panaeyotis Hendra
Make fun of these
