There are four harbors at the Vineyard we go there all the time.

From East to west:
Edgartown - Very very colonial somewhat artsy. large well protected inner
harbor interesting looking colonial seaport - mostly moorings there are a
number of town transient moorings 25 BLUE town moorings around the Green
Can #9 are on a first-come-first-serve basis... if there's an empty one,
grab it ! there are another 50 or more YELLOW town moorings about 3/4 of a
mile past Green can #9 these YELLOW moorings can be and usually are
reserved. Best time to pick up a mooring 10- 11:00 AM. Very hard on Fridays
and Saturdays. If worst comes to worst go into Katama Bay and drop the

Oak Bluffs is the liveliest harbor small tight and very well protected
except from a NE wind, lots of from ferries day trippers from Hyannis,
Providence Woods Hole. . . . famous for its Methodist campground and the
brightly-painted Victorian "gingerbread" cottages. The Tabernacle has
traditional American (for the 19th century) entertainment Weds evening
(brass bands, choruses and such)... and the home of the Flying Horses
Carousel, the oldest working carousel in America. Lots of slips Slips...
$ 2.50/ft (30 ft minimum) and $ 5.00/electric reserve ahead Lots of
moorings, no real problem getting one (except on Sat) because rafting not
just encouraged its often involuntary, (you do meet interesting people)

Vineyard Haven Busiest harbor somewhat industrial but a really good
restraint in easy walking distance (Black Dog) , good place to stock up on
stuff A&P (remember them) is 100 ft from the dingy dock. Lots of moorings
the most desirable are in the inner harbor (behind the breakwater) There
are 40 town moorings and another 14 transient boats can be accommodated at
the Owens Park town dock (no electric). Other moorings or dock space are
available at the Vineyard Haven Marina (693-0720) on Beach Road.

Menemsha Most remote, a little Mainey looking, caters to fisher folks (sport
and pros). Good fish store, good fish restraint in easy walking distance
(Home Port), Very well protected limited slips limited moorings (sailboats
only), If the weathers good and wind is from the south you can moor or
anchor in the bight outside the harbor. Hint very powerful current
(particularly on an ebb tide) in channel makes getting into slips tricky,
super clear water, great sunsets, no Launch service
