http://www.wireglue.us/ Anyone tried this for emergency repairs? Gordon Why? I've various sizes of wire and a few different connecting methods including solder when a connection goes bad. Mid-season, our GPS connector went bad and I was able to wire in a new one in under a half hour while we were under way. I keep such spares in my junk box for just that reason. Truth be told, I can't think of an "emergency" repair that wireglue would fix adequately. Anything I deem "emergency" if it doesn't work requires a high-power connection that only "snip and reconnect" would satisfy. (Losing our GPS was an inconvenience, not an emergency.) Maybe I'm a bit odd, but if I have to fix something, even in a hurry, I want to fix it well enough to not have to worry about it later. Once fixed, it's fixed. -- Jere Lull Xan-à-Deux -- Tanzer 28 #4 out of Tolchester, MD Xan's pages: http://web.mac.com/jerelull/iWeb/Xan/ Our BVI trips & tips: http://homepage.mac.com/jerelull/BVI/ |

How do you know it wouldn't be adequate if you never tried it. Might be worth a shot if you're days at sea, no soldering iron available and wire nuts won't do the job. Gordon |

I've tried similar in the past and reaped the results, usually a mess that takes three times the effort to clean up than a proper job would take. Soldering irons are cheap and small, useful for other jobs, so of course I have one aboard. That half-hour rewiring job I mentioned included de-soldering the old plug and soldering the new connections on as we sailed along. Didn't have to put it aside overnight as I would have had to do with the wire glue. -- Jere Lull Xan-à-Deux -- Tanzer 28 #4 out of Tolchester, MD Xan's pages: http://web.mac.com/jerelull/iWeb/Xan/ Our BVI trips & tips: http://homepage.mac.com/jerelull/BVI/ |
