Default SS Tubing Thickness for Bow Rail

I am having my bow rail on a Morgan OI41 remade. What is the best
grade of stainless for this, i.e., 304, 316, 318, etc. I am using 1"
tubing. What should the wall thickness be? Is 16 ga. (.065) OK or
should it be heavier? Thanks.

I can't speak to the thickness of the tubing, but this document on
metals in the marine environment:

http://www.kastenmarine.com/mbqMetRef.pdf

seems very thorough, and address your stainless question.

Joe,
Normally this tube is 1.2 mm in 316. You can use 1.5 mm wall or .060". This
material is sold in prepolished 6 meter lengths. The heavier wall will
actually bend tighter more successfully.
