SS Tubing Thickness for Bow Rail
I am having my bow rail on a Morgan OI41 remade. What is the best
grade of stainless for this, i.e., 304, 316, 318, etc. I am using 1" tubing. What should the wall thickness be? Is 16 ga. (.065) OK or should it be heavier? Thanks. Joe |

SS Tubing Thickness for Bow Rail
I can't speak to the thickness of the tubing, but this document on
metals in the marine environment: http://www.kastenmarine.com/mbqMetRef.pdf seems very thorough, and address your stainless question. MW |

SS Tubing Thickness for Bow Rail
Joe,
Normally this tube is 1.2 mm in 316. You can use 1.5 mm wall or .060". This material is sold in prepolished 6 meter lengths. The heavier wall will actually bend tighter more successfully.
