Default Lexan to Aluminum Adhesive?

Now that Alreto is washing my decks it reminds me that I have a leak. I have
hatches that are an almuninum frame with lexan inserts. The lexan just fits
in from the top onto a 1/4" shelf. Silicone was used last and is leaking. I
would also like to secure the lexan better ethier with adhesive or I may
make some type of retainer. What adhesive would be best?
Thanks. I have learned much from this group already.

Yep, silicone is intended for use with fastners.

Do a search here and .cruising. Tons of info.
I used Dow Corning 795. Seems to work
Sikaflex has a blended product that has more stick than the DC product.

You don't have aluminum. You mean aluminum oxide, at least on the bonding
surface. Stuff don't stick well to aluminum oxide.

The trick is to apply the cement to the oxidized aluminum, and abrade the
oxide off aluminum, with the cement creating a barrier to the air which
would instantly re-oxidize the aluminum. Tool of choise is a stainless
steel wire brush from the welding supply.

3M 5200 Will stick to ANYTHING! Last nearly forever, So, If you ever
want it to come apart DO NOT USE 3m 5200! I am putting together a boat,
and have used 6 tubes so far. Den densnet.com
