Lexan to Aluminum Adhesive?
Now that Alreto is washing my decks it reminds me that I have a leak. I have
hatches that are an almuninum frame with lexan inserts. The lexan just fits in from the top onto a 1/4" shelf. Silicone was used last and is leaking. I would also like to secure the lexan better ethier with adhesive or I may make some type of retainer. What adhesive would be best? Thanks. I have learned much from this group already. - Allen |

Tons of info. I used Dow Corning 795. Seems to work Sikaflex has a blended product that has more stick than the DC product. Bob |

Lexan to Aluminum Adhesive?
Now I am torn.
Sika products look good and I intend to learn everything I can about them for this and other projects. I also have some experience with automotive windshields and like that stuff too. If you need your windshield replaced, make sure the person doing it is knows there stuff ans is using the right stuff. In todays cars the windshield is the strongest part of the roof structure. If the glass pops out in a rollover the roof colapses flat --- on your head. Thanks again - Allen |

Lexan to Aluminum Adhesive?

What adhesive would be best? You don't have aluminum. You mean aluminum oxide, at least on the bonding surface. Stuff don't stick well to aluminum oxide. The trick is to apply the cement to the oxidized aluminum, and abrade the oxide off aluminum, with the cement creating a barrier to the air which would instantly re-oxidize the aluminum. Tool of choise is a stainless steel wire brush from the welding supply. |
