It's all over but the exchange of cash. We're about to be the proud owners
of a 1D35 which we'll use for racing in a fleet not far from our home port
on weekends. We'll keep Clover, of course, but much of our sailing will be
racing. Can't make the Wednesday night races, but that's a different series
anyway.

1D35 PHRF: 36
C&C 99 PHRF: 99

Adios, Bubbles.

The line drawing of the side view makes it look like a Bolger design.

You will be having a lot of fun. Much more fun than RB could have. Fun is
proportional to the inverse PHRF^2.

King Max = Fastest and most fun boat in ASA!!!!!

Very cool. The Boobster probably doesn't know what it is however.

We've been wanting a one-design racer for a while, and looked at Mumm 30s
and Melges 20s, but neither boat has a decent OD fleet around here. Both
have to compete in level racing. The 1D35s, however, have a great fleet,
and the owner of our boat is older and retiring from racing, so the rest of
the fleet is glad to keep the boat in their fleet. Either that, or the
belief that we'll be cannon fodder for them, which is probably true for a
while.

Max, the only one eating their heart out is Sloco's, who's
Expressasaurus now looks even more ancient and cheap. The IS35 is
awesome, though not exactly the family boat we own and love now.
We actually had one in our yard for a couple of years. The owner dry
sailed the thing and paid through the nose to launch about 4 or 5
times per season. It's funny that his second boat, sitting in a slip,
was a Stone Horse! I guess he had the same idea you have; a slow, but
pretty cruiser and a seperate high performance beast for racing.
Congrats, dude!

I did a sea trial today with the owner. We dropped the boat in the lake at
around 3pm, just about the time the wind died. With 5kts. or less, this
boat moves as if its screw is turning. To weather it made a consistent
3kts. and off the wind it nearly equaled what we were measuring as apparent
wind. I thought I was on an iceboat. It will take a while to get used to
the deep keel with bulb (7' 7") as we have lots o' shoal water around here
now. Out on Lake Michigan it appeared to be almost dead calm, but the boat
kept ghosting at about a knot or better. I was mightily impressed. This
particular boat comes with two dozen sails, mostly mains, but some decent
headsails and spinnakers, too. I'm told, however, that I'll have to invest
in new sails if I want to be competitive, as everything in the inventory is
already "blown out." Could have fooled me--they all appear new. Most are
Kevlar and Spectra on a Mylar base, but there are a main and headsail that
are bi-directional carbon and appear to be in perfect shape. We'll no doubt
race with them this summer, at least until we get a feel for the boat and
gain some experience. All instruments are B&G, except for a Tacktick
compass on the mast. We really have nothing else to buy for the boat at
the present time. I'm pumped.

The boat can be raced with three in a pinch if the weather is light. When
the wind picks up what you need most is 'railmeat,' and that's generally not
too hard to locate where this fleet launches.

Not yet. But I should have soon. The owner gave me a few shots of the boat
under sail with the black sails, but my scanner isn't working right now . .
