... Personally I don't believe a word of what he types, the closest he's ever been to a bouncer was getting thrown out of some bar for making obnoxious remarks and smelling the joint up with his bowel problems. Golden Gloves champ my ass. You ever see any of Sugar Ray's films when he was Golden Gloves, he'd take out four bouncers before they could say "ID please". I doubt anyone really does. I was never a bouncer, but I've known two. Neither was particularly big, imposing, or agressive. One was of moderate height and weight, and when I saw him in action, 99% of the time he screened people at the door before they even got to the bar area/dance floor. This was in San Diego, so he would get a fair number of military and bikers. He was always polite, even with drunks, but no one usually got that far, because they would be cut off early. It was a strip club, and no one wanted trouble with the cops. If anyone started to get out of control, they were almost immediately surrounded by the bartenders and my friend, and directed to the door. He thought the biggest problem was after hours, when the women were trying to get to their cars. Sometimes he had to call the cops. The other guy was about 5'2" tall at the most. His name was Kenny. I use to manage a minor Jazz/Fusion band in the late 70s down in San Diego, and he was typically along for the ride as a roady... he was friends with the bass player. I watched him walk up to Chargers linebacker or some such huge guy who was at the bar screaming obscenities about something, and the yelling was so loud that it was really annoying the crowd. Kenny reached up and tapped him on the shoulder. The guy turned around and literally didn't see anyone because Kenny was so short. Kenny said, "Down here." So the guy looks down. Kenny looks up and says, take your f*ckin yellin' somewhere else or I'll f*ck you up. Just like that he said it. No yelling. The guy put down his drink. I thought he was going to plant Kenny with one hand. Instead, he punched his buddy's arm and said let's get out of here, then left. I think it was all attitude that did it. In any case, it was impressive. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com |
