Unlike people that spend a quarter of a million on a car, I have no
need to try to impress anyone. Everyone knows why insecure guys buy expensive cars Cuz they like them, Joe. And they can afford them. And if it pleases them to show off thier toys and pleasures, how does this bother you? Oh, wait. I know the answer. You have no money. You have no home or land. You have no family. You live on a rusting derelict without any room to stretch out. Hey, there are assholes like Jeff who sit around questioning how people enjoy their toys. And then there are ultra assholes like Joe who's got his panties in a bunch because he has no toys. Joe is certainly the most frustrated fellow here, but maybe he'll tell us again about all those hours at sea he logged. Golly! I'm sure glad I missed that! RB 35s5 NY |

You could have bought a boat like my dink to do the sailing you do,
and saved Suzy 75K. Really? On your dink? We could have sailed to Oyster Bay with a toddler, anchored out and BBQ'ed up some chicken and steak? Suzanne and I could have put Thomas to sleep in his own cabin and then we could have made love in our own private cabin? In the morning we could have motored over to the OB Town dock and let Thomas play in the park for an hour before resuming our sail to Port Jeff to meet friends? Then we could have met those friends and all eaten on board along with the nice wine and cheese they brought? Then, on Sunday morning we could have sailed back for home and Suzanne & Thomas could have sat on the swim platform and let their feet hang in the water, kicking and splashing? During the last couple of hours Suzanne could have taken Thomas below and taken a sweet nap, out of the hot sun? I KNOW we all NEED to see that dink of yours! It must be amazing!!!!! (Oh, and before I paid for the house, I paid off the note on the 35s5. Lord, are you a loser!) RB 35s5 NY |

Why does it bother you so much Rob, that I live aboard, race in
regettas, make offshore trips, and enjoy my career so much that I'm in no rush to leave anywhere? Because you said that you were leaving a year ago. Because you don't use the boat you live aboard except as a houseboat, yet claim it's the "right boat." Because you lie about your career and are dirt poor living like a boat tramp. Where is your family. And spare me the BS that your lovely wife can't get pregnant. There are lots of kids to adopt. That's assuming you're willing to be a real man and step up. Because you sound so angry and frustrated, it's fun for everyone! Hell, I have 4 e-mails saying how good it is to have me back on ASA and how you were second on the hook after Crantz! RB 35s5 NY |

Hey, there are assholes like Jeff who sit around questioning how people enjoy their toys. I never questioned your right to buy an expensive boat and then never use it. My very first post concerning your Benny was that it was the perfect boat for you. I've only commented on your qualifications to advise other people on nautical matters. Anyone who claims that air conditioning is required to cruise in New England (otherwise "it would be horrific") has forfeited that right. |

Anyone who claims that air conditioning is required to cruise in New England (otherwise "it would be horrific") has forfeited that right. I don't think that air conditioning is required, but I can tell you that there was one night in Port Jeff a couple of years ago in mid-August where is WAS horrific without it. It was during a heat wave, and it was brutal trying to sleep. We were tempted to get a room at Danfords, but decided we could deal with one night of intense discomfort. I can remember a few nights that were oppressive, but the only real brutal nights were dockside, never at anchor. And this includes cruising through Florida. Of course, we have two large hatches directly over the bunk, and the hulls tend to funnel any breeze up over the deck. If I lived dockside, I would consider adding A/C, but not for cruising. We don't do circumnavigations, or anything like that, so a little adversity here and there makes our adventures memorable. Although the boat is wired for it, we have never used shore power. I'll bet you think cruising would be horrific without THAT. Why do people think I spend time at docks? In the last five years cruising New England we've spent a grand total of one night onboard dockside. I've learned that the boat is most comfortable 100 yards out, not at the dock. Of course, launch service is a luxury I wouldn't turn down. Who remembers perfect conditions and no adversity? What do you remember best 10 or 20 years later? We spent one anniversary sailing home through remnants of Hurricane Charlie. We still remember that as one of our best trips ever. It had some great "moments" that we'll treasure for the rest of our lives. I tend to remember the hard passages - pushing through 30 knots for six hours, or nail biting in peasoup fog. But my wife prefers the perfect weather, with whales and dolphins and northern lights and shooting stars and lobsta waiting Down East. Go figure. |

It has a 144 CI six banger... 0-55 in 3.4 min. Quarter mile in just under 138 seconds. Hard to harness all 75 HP. I'm going to add wheelie bars soon. Mine goes a little harder than that... http://www.lanciarally037.com/e-corsaprova.htm Kewl automobile. Price seems a bit high, but it should be fun. Max There were only about 80 ever built and many were destroyed in accidents. http://www.lanciarally037.com/e-homepage.htm Mine is an ex factory car with a genuine race history, one of only 17 built to that particular specification and putting out a cool 350BHP from its 2litre supercharged engine. It's worth every penny I paid for it both to me (I've been chasing one for nearly 10 years) and as a collectors car. I'll be racing it on the very rare event, did about 30 laps at Laguna Seca a couple of weeks back and loved every second. You mentioned the Super 7, I have a modern 7, one of these http://www.birkin.com.au/ 80% complete in my garage. It's fitted with a 2L Ford Zetec slightly worked and dry sumped and a Quaife gearbox and diff. Been building it for 3 years now and it'll be quite something when done, capable of 0-60mph in just over 4 secs hopefully. Looks very similar to the Lotus in my garage. And it sounds fantastic. I've had the opportunity to own the Lotus, but I've deferred, knowing the current owner won't be able to replace it, regardless of his adamant insistence that he will. I won't take advantage of him, but I'd love to race the car in clubman events. I will, however, buy his prodified Viper next year when he retires it from SCCA events. Can't wait. Max |
