Especially marketing. How in the world would our massive consumer-products
industries survive if they couldn't convince people to go into debt to buy
things they don't need?

I'm not sure how much "art" is really involved in advertising, certainly
it is somewhat of a creative (in an applied way) field. This may be what
Binary Charlie was referring to when he said "Art DRIVES the economy." And
while it's a bit of a stretch of the definition of "art" I agree... how
much Budweiser beer would get sold if they didn't spend millions
advertising it?
