Redistribution of wealth--a fundamental tenet of liberal philosophy. Max Forced redistribution of wealth is theft. Charity is the way to go. |

Well, that's certainly changed... in fact during Clinton's presidency.
Ooops. katysails wrote: Actually, during Clinton's Presidency, many programs were put into place to educate young single mothers so they could become self-sufficient. Yep, look at how many were trained to become politician's interns ![]() Problem is, they came out of a system left over from your Great Society that did pay money, food stamps, and energy assistance based on the size of your fa,ily. If it comes down to working for 10 bucks and hour or getting it all doled out, the option is usually the dole. The other problem is that there is no work ethic. You get more if you don't work. From what I've seen personally, that's not really true. But a lot of people would rather have less money for not working, than to work & get more. Why is that? I dunno, but clearly the ratio should be adjusted. For that matter, the number of co-workers I've seen miling workmen's comp claims over the years would support the idea that 1- there's more than one way to milk the system and 2- a LOT of people, across every ethnicity, have the same no-work ethic. In countries such as Germany and Japan the birth rates aRE LOW ENOUGH to decrease the population unless there is immigration. I beleieve it is true for the US but immigration is increasing the population. Why is it that our best and brightest breed the least? Pay the most taxes? |

Why is it that our best and brightest breed the least? Pay the most taxes? Uh, because our best and brightest also have better access to health care, providing a longer life span. That longer life span results in a smaller proportion of women of child bearing age, hence, a declining birth rate. It's, in effect, a Ponzi Scheme. |

I'm not talking proportion, I'm talking about absolute numbers. Affluent families have less kids. It doesn't matter how long one lives or about health care. In fact, good health care would tend to facilitate larger families, longer lifespans also facilitate more kids as women can children well into their 40's. The root of it all is what is the cause of affluence. My opinion is that it has to do mostly with intelligence. The smarter one is, the greater is the tendency for them to be affluent. There are exceptions though such as athletes and Hollywood entertainers. They are affluent but not intelligent as a general rule. |
