That's about as silly as most of Capt. JG's ideas! :-) I've never seen a recreational boat kedged of a dock (I've kedged off a number of other things), but I have used a pole on a number of occasions. I used to use a winter storage yard that was totally low budget - instead of a lift they had an old truck and a homemade frame. Boats were moved off the frame onto cradles with an array of small hydraulic jacks. Instead of a work boat with an engine, they would pole around their little cove with 20 foot poles. |

But, you don't see push poles carried on sailboats. So to say sailors should use a pole when they don't have one is dumb. I *do* have a couple of anchors..... Speaking of poles..... How do you sink a polish sailboat? Put it in water. :-) Cheers, Ellen |

Good punting link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punt_(boat) Ethnologists up with the Sioux Wired home for two punts, one canoe. The answer next day Said, "Girls on the way, But what the hell's a 'panoe'?" |

Bluto is correct. |

True, but your boat isn't much bigger. But, you don't see push poles carried on sailboats. So to say sailors should use a pole when they don't have one is dumb. I *do* have a couple of anchors..... I have two eight foot oars and several boat hooks, one 12 feet long. My boat only draws 3 feet. I few weeks ago I posted a picture of a boat that was sailed thousands of miles without an engine, but using long sweeps. I'm pretty sure the poled with them on occasion. |

"katy" wrote | Most sailboats carry dock poles and preventer s...either works in the | case specified... Dock pole??? Preventer??? The only kind of preventer I know is used to keep the boom from jybing. It's no use pushing off docks. I'm not familiar with dock poles. Are we talking about the same thing? Here's a push pole. http://www.stiffypushpoles.com/stiffy.htm And here's a picture of one being used. http://www.stiffypushpoles.com/image...poling-web.jpg Does that look like a sailboat to you?
