Why?

To show the true wind speeds you sailed in.

Default Joe's Dumber than roach poop!

Here's the actual report from the station about 3 miles south of where
booby sort of claims that he sailed.
http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/dat...at=View+Plo t
or
http://tinyurl.com/ptkc3

The chart shows that the wind was below 6 kts until around 3pm, when
it climbed to 10. At 6 pm it jumped to 15, with gusts of 18, and got
a bit stronger after dark. Now, I have claimed that "all weather is
local" but it does seem unlikely that King's Point, which is pretty
well exposed to the South and West, would have much different wind
from an area just a few miles away, actually within sight.

Of course, its doubtful that Booby actually stayed out when the wind
started to pick up. In fact, he never quite says that he was there,
he only claims that "most boats were sent home."

It's funny to watch how the story changes with time. His first two
posts after the sail never mention wind, then the next morning he
mentions reefing and "heavy air." One would think that if he really
experienced 30 knots he would be eager to mention it right away.
Later in the day, after hearing from other boaters, he suddenly claims
it was "gusting to 30 knots for two hours" and "It sent most boats
home by 5:30." Note that at 5:30 King's Point, just 3 miles south,
only shows 10, gusting to 12 at that point. Then realizing his
blunder, he starts backpedaling, claiming it was at least 20. Then he
claims victory by citing a weather station 35 miles away, on the South
side of Long Island, that actually on showed a sustained wind of 16 knots.

My guess is that Booby went out for about an hour, and when the wind
picked up to 15, he took an a reef and headed home.

BTW, he claims to have been out at sunset, but that was at 8:30 and he
posted at 9:07 that night. And, while there might be a "funnel
affect" around Execution Rock in a NE wind, this was a SW, so this
area is where the Sound is opening up to the wind, not funneling. Its
easier to believe that Booby's friend at Throgs Neck had some gusts
from the funneling.

I don't see 30 kts anywhere near either of these numbers:

20Knots=23.0MPH
15Knots=17.3MPH

Joe... did I miss something?

Rob claims he's sailing for a "couple of hours" in 30 kt gust.

Rob's dumber than a bowl of sour kraut. And clearly a liar.

Remedial reading? I already posted wind above 27 at LaGuardia. Does
that mean it's not possible we saw 30 knots a few miles away?

This is so over, Joe got quiet!

They measured 27 knots of jet exhaust at LaGuardia.

Willets Point only shows 12 knots peak!

You lie!
