Never is a very long time, Moroon. 2) One of your friends or relatives might be involved in an auto accident in the US, and you'd be called upon to intercede on their behalf. I wouldn't go there for that reason anymore than I would travel to Iraq for the same. If any of my relatives are stupid enought to travel someplace I wouldn't go.. they're on their own. Crate the carcass and ship it back.... Pre-paid! Your sensitivity is underwhelming. g 3). Scotty and I might come up there, hog tie you, put a bag over your head, knock you unconscious, and allow you to find yourself regaining consciousness in Laredo, TX, in the barrios. I've been in Laredo..... and neither of you have the resource nor capability to undertake such an overwhelming task. The pair of you would end up drunk and passed out at the local bar waiting for me to finish my 16th beer. What does being able to drink us under the table have to do with the effect of a 40 oz. baseball bat applied to the occipital region of the skull? Actually, you're right--neither of us has the *desire* to undertake such a task. We'd just knock you out in Nova Scotia and feed you to the lobsters. G Max |

Canada nailed both Gold & Silver on Women's Speed Skating. Still... that won't do much to lessen the embarrassment of our Men's Hockey Team..... those bunch of fricken slackers will catch **** when they come home with their tails between their legs. What a **** poor performance they had! They'll never return to Canada, rather to the US to resume their careers with the NHL. :-p Max |

Second, I am able to sail to Cuba, provided I spend no money there, and have a sponsor who lives there. Both points are easily dealt with, especially if one doesn't mind jousting with the INS upon returning to the US. Third, I can always drive into Canada and take a flight to Havana. Oh, OK - you define going thru all that crap as complying with 'reasonably be able to go'. I don't. Doubt many other people would agree with you, either. Do you see the word "reasonably" anywhere in my post? The word *reasonable* never entered my mind as applied to our government's attitude toward Cuba. Don't put words in my mouth. Why don't you try reading back a couple of your own posts on this thread? Clue - I put quotes around 'reasonably be able to go' because I was quoting............................. you. I think you've just shot your own position full of holes. PDW |

Every non US citizen is subject to the most rigorous scrutiny yet 95% of containers are left untouched....homeland security is a sham. Couldn't agree more. The real joke here is, after you pass thru the scanners, you can buy drinks in glass bottles on the inside. And they're worried about Swiss Army knives and the like? Security? Did the muggers take all your cash? Any rednecks kick your ass? Any racists ASSUALT YOUR WIFE? Relax, JR. There is a general rule regarding those who love to rip on the United States: they choose to visit here because of the substantial quantity of resources and attractions we have to offer, and they subsequently discover that this really is not an unsafe place to be, provided you don't stupidly or deliberately put yourself in harm's way. To the contrary they discover that their vacations come off without a hitch, are enjoyable, and often exceed their expectations. Of course, You have a beautiful country with scenery and possibility for adventure that is absolutely astounding. Unfortunately you also have sewers like Los Angeles. Of course they return home and resume their diatribe against the USA. Their like-minded friends just love to hear how awful and dangerous this country is. You need to get out more.... Then there's Mooron, who's worried about retinal scans and such. I think he must have something in his past that he doesn't want uncovered. g Either that or he is happy where he is That is certainly reasonable. and unwilling to go through the charade of US Customs and Security. Get a life. We go through it every time we board a plane. It's a minor inconvenience, if stupidly ineffective and annoying. But for Mooron to deny himself of the wonderful places and opportunities this country has to offer, strictly on principle or to avoid being inconvenienced in a minor way, is penalizing only him. None of us give a rat's posterior if he enters the US or not. Ummm, Max, it's not penalizing Mooron at all. It's a big world out there, lotta interesting places. Perhaps you should get out more. I liked it when I lived in the USA, but if I never go back I won't really care. I suspect Mooron feels much the same way. This isn't meant as a putdown for the USA, BTW, unless you really do think it's the centre of the universe and that everyone is desperate to go there. I feel exactly the same way about Jakarta and Honiara, and to a lesser extent, Sydney. All places where I've lived for quite some time. BT, DT, got the shirts..... You guys have every right to run any immigration regime you like. I don't care. Japan has fingerprinted foreign residents for the last 30+ years, AFAIK, However, when places like Brazil start fingerprinting and treating US visitors like you guys do to other foreign nationals, I don't expect to hear any moaning about it. OK? Not like it's going to make a difference to dedicated terrorists trying to get into the USA. I used to live in Tucson, illegals crossing the border didn't even make the news unless they died in the desert or something. PDW |

In article et, Maxprop wrote: Sure, you go thru a scanner....do you need have your details transmitted to US Custome when you board an aircraft so they can have a full check done on you by the time you arrive? Do you get fingerprinted on each arrival in the US? Do you need to advise Immigration where you'll be spending your time in the US? US citizens aren't subjected to those things. At least not yet. You might be right. Everything today seems to be carried to extremes for some reason. Between the media fear mongering and the political finger-pointing, this home security thing will continue to expand to levels we can't even imagine right now. Max |

Let me play the devil's advocate here for a moment: So we've established that examining incoming containers is not feasible. For that reason, is it reasonable to simply ignore all other aspects of homeland security that ARE feasible, such as clearing individuals for entry? Max |

![]() OzOne wrote in message ... On Thu, 23 Feb 2006 21:37:49 GMT, "Maxprop" scribbled thusly: Nope.... Homeland security is just smoke, mirrors and inconvenience. Maybe that's all it takes to prevent another attack on the order of 9/11/01. Bwaaahahhahahhahahhahhahaaaa! You've swallowed that line? What line? HS doesn't claim to be smoke and mirrors. That's your take, not theirs. And the evidence supports HS, not you. The US has been free of terrorist attack since HS instituted its programs. HS may have absolutely nothing to do with that, but you can't prove it doesn't. So your argument is invalid. You're an ex-cop. How would you deal with terrorism in Australia? Heh heh, there is none. Maybe if Little Johnnie Howard keeps Americanising us...we will. As I expected--you won't answer the question. Criticism without alternative suggestions is the mark of a chronic complainer, not a problem solver. Save your breath--we have plenty of those here already. Max |

![]() "Peter Wiley" wrote in message . .. Ummm, Max, it's not penalizing Mooron at all. It's a big world out there, lotta interesting places. Certainly, but the US sits on his nearby southern border. Jakarta doesn't. I enter Canada from two to five times per year, and its disappointing that the border constraints are in place, but that won't stop me. Petty bureaucracies exist in nearly every place in the world, and unless you choose to become a self-isolationist you simply deal with them and go about your business. But this really has nothing to do with Moroon's inconvenience or his principles. He loves to grind the anti-US axe with those of us here from the US. So does Ozzy. It seems to be their cyber recreational pleasure of late. And we'd be remiss if we didn't call them on it--hell, they'd find no pleasure at all in a one-sided diatribe with no opposition. So in my own way I'm making it possible for you, Moroon and Ozzy to enjoy your time on ASA. You can thank me now or later. Max |
