We should give Michigan back to Canada!

No, no, no. I'm about to move to Michigan.

No way do I want to be a . . . . (gulp) cannuck.

Max

You weren't born there so you don't qualify...

WHAT? You mean there are no naturalized cannucks???

(whew)

Not in a month of Sundays would I ever set foot again in your country.

CM

So you won't come to the US during a month of Sundays, which never occurs.

How about any time else? You're always welcome to come and visit and even
move here. Americans are friendly!

Amen!

We'll send you Katy. You can straighten them out and then return.

Amen!

Snowboarding is a Michigan sport. Boarding in half-pipes is
dangerous. We taught out kids to ski, but refrained from the whole
board business, not wanting to deal with the broken bones issues in
the learning process.

Oh, thanks, Katy. I just took it up last year.

Max

When they set up the luge run at Hoffmaster I was really tempted...

THEY HAVE A LUGE RUN THERE???????

Oh, jeeze . . . I shouldn't have been told that.

Max

hehehe...yeah, they do..and it's Olympic caliber....your life insurance
carrier will cancel you, however...

What do I need life insurance for at my age? My wife and the dogs will
do just fine if I fly off the run at 80mph and do an Englemann Stop.

Max

Maybe they would miss you?

Sure, but they'd be fine financially.

Curling is a Canadian sport.

Curb your tongue, woman. Lake Superior State University, at The Soo,
has two varsity sports: men's hockey and curling.

Max

Yeah...and what did I say about native Michiganders? They're just
canadians waving an American flag....

I'd have to agree with that, if applied to yoopers. But the lower P.
folks are more like Hoosiers and Ill-annoyans.

Max

Only if they're from east of the Lansing/Saginaw line and below Benton
Harbor...and then you have to eliminate the Dutch element...

You'd wipe out Holland?

Just a little clarification: Michiganders are like *unemployed* cannucks.
If you are going to Michigan anytime soon, take some jobs with ya!

Clarification: we're moving just across the border from Indiana. We'll
still be working in the Hoosier state.

Then again I could move to Canada and suckle at the government teat like
someone else we know and . . . um, know.

On a serious note, Avery Brundage fought for decades to keep
professionalism out of the Olympics. Ultimately he was overruled, and
it's damaged the games beyond repair, IMO. Only the relatively non-pro
sports, such as Biathlon, Luge, Skeleton, Bobsled, Curling, etc. hold my
interest any longer. I couldn't care less about snowboard, freestyle
skiing, alpine, men's hockey, and the other pro-based events. Many of us
remember the "miracle on ice" at the Lake Placid 1980 Games, when the US
amateur hockey team beat the highly-pro Russians and went on to win the
gold. That event will never be repeated under the current paradigm.

Max

Great points. I wish it was purely amateur as well. It really said a lot
when US amateurs, without government funding, took on virtual professional
state run teams of other countries. I also think team sports should be
eliminated.

Amen!

It was tragic when the IOC stooped to the lowest common denominator on the
pro issue. Instead of fighting to keep the games truly amateur, they caved
and let everyone get paid for doing what they do. Now we have millionaires
playing basketball, hockey, skiing, skating, etc. And NBC would have us
believe that these poor, downtrodden athletes have sacrificed everything to
get to the Olympics. Hogwash. If the governments of the world follow the
lead of the IOC, it won't be long when all drugs are legalized because it's
easier to acquiesce to the elements in the toilet than fight for what is
right.

Any so called 'sport' that relies on judges should be
eliminated!

In its present iteration, the Olympics should be eliminated. Then new games
could begin with amateurs again. Used to be that an Olympic gold medal was
worth somewhere around a couple of million dollars to the athlete who was
fortunate enough to win one. Now many athletes can't even recall when they
"earned" their first two million.
