Snowboarding? They will not win in manly winter sports such as downhill skiing, the biathalon, cross country skiing, ice hockey or ski jumping. They win in hippie events like snowboarding or pagentry events like figure skating. Thank God alpine climbing is not a winter event, the US would lose at that too. Who wouldn't want to see women fight? Proves, actually, that no one cares to see reorganized NHL teams, any more than they care to see the organized NHL teams. NHL sucks. College hockey rules ! Manly, yes, but they're all waiting for disaster! Doesn't happen much anymore. I miss that "ecstacy of victory, agony of defeat" clip. On a serious note, Avery Brundage fought for decades to keep professionalism out of the Olympics. Ultimately he was overruled, and it's damaged the games beyond repair, IMO. Only the relatively non-pro sports, such as Biathlon, Luge, Skeleton, Bobsled, Curling, etc. hold my interest any longer. I couldn't care less about snowboard, freestyle skiing, alpine, men's hockey, and the other pro-based events. Many of us remember the "miracle on ice" at the Lake Placid 1980 Games, when the US amateur hockey team beat the highly-pro Russians and went on to win the gold. That event will never be repeated under the current paradigm. Max |
