It's nice that you're getting your money back, less

interest of
course, but you probably shouldn't be bragging about it.

Basically,
you didn't do the math right to begin with, thus giving

your gov't a

particulary
smart unless that's what you intended. Since you said that

They are also based upon how you are doing in the current year. If you make

If you are making less in the current year, you can pay estimated based on

Ah yes.... you folks in the USA don't understand the benefits of a "Minority
Government" ... do you? Did you know that there is actually way too much
money in the EI coffers.... has been for the last 6 years.... that's
right.... the coffers are bloated to the tune of billions of dollars.... not
millions.... the government has been using funds from it to supplement other
departments. They're giving it away and removed the stipulation that you
have to check in to pretend to look for work every week.

So I've been paying into the system for 30 years.... collected maybe a
year's worth in that time.... now I'm collecting more. There will be times I
collect less. It's called insurance... we have to pay it.... they have to
pay-out when appropriate. It's great... I work construction and there is no
work in that field during the "off-season".... EI comes in handy... buys my
beer and smokes!

I have no power to effect what tax rate the government utilizes on me
Max.... it is based on your pay cheque. Now if I work 150hrs in 2 weeks....
here in Nova Scotia overtime is only payable after 55 hrs/wk for
construction related work. That means that I still have 40 hrs of OT at
T&1/2.... for that period. The tax is taken off as if I make that kind of
cash every payday all year. I only work 6 to 8 months. So they have
overtaxed me and I am now due a return.

free ride on your money... not exactly good accounting or particulary
smart

Once again your lack of knowledge in anything remotely related to the
conservative ideals the USA was founded on is showing.

Perhaps he estimates his tax payments. According to law payments this
year are based on how you did last year. Perhaps he did not do as well
this year, and yet still had to pay taxes as if he did. Thus, he gets
a refund.

Or . . . you can be smarter and pay less estimated tax than calculated,
thus withholding that which you really don't owe the government anyway.
It's not really rocket science to estimate how much tax you actually
will owe in a given year. $6K of overpayment is foolish.

Depends, Max. In days of yore captains would hold some of their crews pay
while they went ashore, so that when they got back to the ship they
wouldn't be broke.

(Good point, John.)

Never mind, Mooron. Go for the big refund.

If the government holding on to your cash for you for one year interest free
is good, wouldn't holding onto it for 2 years be better?

Even better why don't they take what they want and just hold onto it until
one reaches retirement age. They can give it back interest free. For your
own good!

Whoops! Didn't I just describe social security?

Amen!
