Miss snow? Yeah...right....I can live without it...
As far as shooting people goes, in Michigan, if someone breaks in to your house you have the option of shooting him dead or not shooting him at all...if you shoot and wound they can sue you for everything you;ve got...also, they have to die in the house..if they crawl out and die on the sidewalk, you are then a murderer rather than shooting in self-defense... We haven't even had a freeze here yet. Actually I believe it's a fairly universal principle in most states, that one may (or even should) use deadly force to prevent the commission of a fatal crime. Hey Dave, if you're reading this thread, any comment on this? I know it's true in Florida, years ago a co-worker shot a robber in a convenience store who was holding a gun to the clerk's head. The cops showed up at the shop, took his statement, and left. He was never charged with anything. As for trespassing, some states have recently (in the past 20 years AFAIK) passed laws mandating "maximum retreat" meaning that you cannot use force to defend your property. Sounds pretty stupid to me, it's not a big problem for society that gung-ho home-owners are shooting crooks in record numbers. Maybe the crooks have a better lobby? Regards Doug King |
