The weight limit for
the motor needs to be factored in with other things. What makes you think 6
pounds difference means anything?

I was under the impression that Portabote rated the 54lb limit based on the
transom capacity rather than weight leveraged at the stern. Price is not a
factor here. You can get the Honda 5HP at Defender for just 1200.00. I'm going
to call Porta-Bote tomorrow and see if the extra weight is a real issue. I
think you said you have the 8 foot model. The 4 should work great on that and
so would Honda's little (and pricey!) 2Hp.
