"Bobsprit" wrote in message I'm about to order a 5HP outboard to go with my new 10' Porta-bote. Anyone have any real info on which 5HP 4 cycle outboard is best currently? Most of them are made by the same company, so it doesn't really matter which you buy: Mercury, Yamaha, Johnson. One exception is the Honda, which is made by Honda. And they are generally considered to be a cut above everyone else's four-stroke outboards. But they cost more, too. Not sure about the Nissan/Tohatsu, but it appears to be similar to the Merc/Yam/etc. All of the small four-strokes are fine engines, and I doubt if you will go wrong with any of them. Just curious--why do you want a four-stroke? In that size range the two-strokes generally work just as well and don't pay the weight or price penalty. Max |
