Default Boom Stack Pack

om...
Anyone have the type of sail covers that is attached to the boom?

I've used one for 5 years.

I like to single hand Redcloud all the time, but hate stacking,
flaking the main sail.

The one thing it doesn't quite do is flake the sail fully - I still have to
climb up and give it a few tugs to sort it all out. An ultra low friction track
would help; I've looked at the Strong system, but haven't wanted to spend the
grand required. Also, the Dutchman system would be nice, but he claimed it
couldn't be fitted to my stack pack.

Usually it comes down well enough that you could come into a harbor without
dealing with it, but its still a mess. If you really needed singlehanding
ability, I'd add a downhaul to make sure it comes down all the way.

I installed Lazy Jacks but want to incorporate them into new sail
covers that attach to the boom and rool up on each side when not in
use.

My version of the stack pack (made by a small sailmaker in Toronto) has the
Jacks attached to the top of the pack, which has its own battens. Also, there
is a panel on each side that rides up on the sail and holds up the pack. Thus
there are three layers of cloth for the bottom 3 feet or so.

Has anyone used this type of system? How is the top of the sail
covered, is there a velcro flap?

Mine has a long zipper. I rigged a continuous line around the mast and end of
the boom so I can open or close it quickly from the mast. I've also heard of
one that can be open/closed from the helm, but I couldn't figure out how it
worked.
