That's right. Bu**** is pretty close to center, but he's beholden
to the religious right. He's surrounded by extremest right wing
freakazoids.

Let's see...the choice is to be surrounded by raving religionists or
drooling, muck-raking socialists socialists...think I'd rather go with the
religionists....

Okay, you've piqued my interest. What's "a quarter gill?"

It's a standard measure in a pub - apparently, some pubs are criticised for
offering 1/5 gill rather than a 1/4. A gill is 5 fl oz.

Here, a fifth is the volume of the bottle.

What is the volume of the bottle? Here, a standard bottle is 70cl - about
24.6 fl oz.

By the way, do ya favor the Islay or the Highland malts?

Of the few that I've tried, I think I'd prefer a single Islay malt. However,
I don't really drink whisky - certainly not neat, but I don't mind it in a
freshly-brewed coffee. On the very rare occasions when I do drink spirits,
it's more likely to be Lamb's Navy rum, or Drambuie. I like a dark beer now
and then.

The fastest I've seen was on a tight starboard tack, pinching up into

starboard..... spreader to the water.... loose the sheets.....
sprung back up.... set and got flattened to port....... that's
slamming a full keel double ended crab crusher spreader to spreader
in under 20 seconds.

I'd say ours on Wednesday was faster than that - but we didn't have the
spreaders in the water, and I'd imagine that a fin-keel Sonata is a bit more
tender.

The coamings on Overproof kept us dry on both knock downs. I lost my
beer..... casualty of war.

The short legs of our round-the-cans club races (0.5 to 1 mile or so) mean
that we just don't have time for beer - by the time we've rounded a mark and
trimmed, we're immediately looking for the next mark and spotting threats
from other boats. And our gusty conditions mean that we're often heeling
rather too much for a beer to survive (we tend to over-canvas a bit to keep
the speed up in the lulls). I keep a small bottle of water in my pocket and
sink a cold one back at the clubhouse.

That illustrates a lack of dedication I just won't allow aboard Overproof! I
supply "Beer Slings" that fit a can or bottle handily around your neck for
easy access. I also have hats that hold 2 cans with a tube that leads down
to your mouth.... no crew should ever thirst for a brew aboard my vessel.
I used to get complaints about crew members leaving their posts to walk a
blunt to the next in line... now I make certain that sufficient joints are
rolled for each crew member..... efficient and sanitary!

That fact alone allows you an immediate crewing spot aboard Overproof.....
the boat named after the bottle. ;-)

H-m-m-m-m-m.... it's the damned fundamentalists... on both sides that got
you into this Mid East Mess. Let's Keep Church & State Separate as possible.
It would go far to defuse the "Terrorists" who await their religious leaders
every word..... let's face it.... how many religions are there now?...
Which one is right? Which one is Wrong?

Really? Socialists usually have the best interest of society at heart,
misguided as they are. They're certainly not pacifists, so there's no
danger of give up to more aggressive states. Religious freaks tend
to be doomsday expressionists. I would pick the former.
