For some that constantly brags about their boat "thou protest too much"
about Scotties' boat. Based on a quick psych evaluation of Scotty's posts
vs. yours, one would also get the impression that Scotty enjoys his boat
more than you enjoy yours. What's up with that?

What is the tangle of line at the mast base?
What is the tangle of line port side of hatch?
Is that a mast from a Catalina 22??? Pretty thin.
Why are you reefed in obviously calm seastate?
Winch handle about to be knocked overboard!
If you are using a reefed genoa, sheeting block appears to be in the wrong

Is there a throwable PFD on the aft rail?

Scotty leaves them hanging over the sides. He used to keep them on
deck, but every time he shifted his weight, they would all roll
overboard. Now he just leaves them. He conserves his energy for
opening Twinkies packages.

fenders in a slip is good practice. Lines can break, cleats can give way and so
on. Most boats I see in slips have a few fenders out.

saw the same thing at Jersey City Marina. It's far better than just tying it

C'mon Bob, try a little harder. How long have you been POSTING here. You
constantly belittle Scotty's choice of boat. Think about it. You've heard
the term, kicking a dead dog, right? If you think Scotty owns such a crappy
boat, why keep bringing it up? You think Doug King is an inferior sailor
because he owns a trawler. You almost constantly imply that you're somehow a
better sailor than most here because you claim that you sail more frequently
than other folks here. I've said it before, I'll say it again. You brag about
how much you sail in the same fashion that a 2 yr.old boy proudly talks
about how he used the potty. Something you EXPECT a 2 yr. old to do,
something that's disturbing in a fully formed adult personality. Did it ever
occur to you that a fair percentage of the folks here DON'T post about EVERY
time they take their boats out? It's almost as if you're trying to convince
us that you enjoy sailing or that sailing is enjoyable, don't really know
about you, but I think most of us enjoy sailing, we don't need the approval
of others for that. One other thing. Most sailing industry insiders
(including brokers) will candidly admit that yacht brokers, for the most
part, are the equivalent of used car salesman, and I think that most of the
folks that post here regularly (and have had to deal with brokers) know this
also. Trying to be a broker isn't going to impress anyone here. And lastly.
Owning a very nice boat might carry some weight with absolute beginners, you
know, someone that only recently took up sailing, had done a lot of reading,
knows about all of the top names. The rest of us know that owning a nice
boat or an expensive boat has absolutely nothing to do with the ability of
the owner, period. It's sort of like the downhill skiing thing, the cost of
the skiers outfit tends to be inversely proportional to their ability.

Well, that's true, but owning a really nice boat counts for something.
Doesn't mean you're a good sailor but owning a nice boat (ie a boat that
indicates some knowledge of priorities and some skill at maintenance) is
a plus.

In a lot of obvious cases, sure... they are yuppies who are too busy
with their workaholic careers to take time to learn to ski... or sail...
takes some practice & patience, which can't be put on a Mastercard.

How ridiculous....Doug is a proven sailor, even by your standards...he has
posted pictures of his sailing activities on boats other than the
trawler...just because someone owns a trawler does not discount them from
any other boating activity...that's about as stupid statement as disallowing
someone as a sailor because they also kayak, canoe, row, scull, or purr

Well, If you are only going to take your boat out in Galveston Bay
within a few miles of land, wind speed and weather aren't as critical as
when you plan on sailing from Kemah to Galveston to Corpus, or to
Brownsville. In other words, if you are only interested in day sailing,
you might be willing to rely on hand-held instruments, or on
observations based on the Beaufort scale, when you know you can motor
back to port in 20 minutes. - Does that answer your question Katy?
