Shucks, we have *lots* of alternatives to gasoline & fossil fuels. The problem is that most of them are a lot more expensive, and the few that are price competitive, especially as a vehicle fuel (such as methane), with gasoline, are not readily available & are somewhat troublesome to handle. One of the biggest issues with American consumers is convenience. When you see fuel cell recharging stations lining up to take business right next to gas pumps, then maybe we'll have gotten somewhere. In the meantime, electric cars are a pretty good alternative.
