If he isn't and he ends up doing what he claims he's going to do, you probably won't be hearing much from him down the road. If he is, which I strongly suspect, he's got everyone here, almost everyone, firmly hooked. Now I will admit he hooked me but unless it's blatantly obvious(politics or something of that nature) I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. It is blatantly obvious that "Jim" is just trolling along, he admitted as much very recently when he posted.................. As mentioned in previous notes, I was hoping to get some substantive information about the Mac 26M and several other boats before making a decision last month. - The only thing I got was a series of Mac Bashings posted by contributors who didn't know what the hell they were talking about. None of them had sailed the 26M, and most of them didn't even know that the 26M was different from the 26x. I'm incredulous that you would characterize ME as being a troll. I was making a sincere effort to collect information about several boats, including the Mac, but also including several others. If my wife hadn't been so negative about the ratty interior of the Cal 34, I was ready to put a deposit on it and get a survey. "Actually, I knew what I was getting into when I decided to defend the Macs on this ng, since this group has been bashing them for a number of years." Which would make his initial posts, claiming he wanted "opinions" about the mac, bald-faced lies. Which would greatly increase the probability that everything he has posted is untrue. Wouldn't surprise me if this was the Boob, you know how much he loved to troll. John Cairns In addition to the obviously biased, obviously uninformed "opinions" that I anticipated from past experiences on this ng, I had hoped that I would also get some substantive, factual information from at least a few knowledgeable contributors who had actually sailed the 26M, or who at least knew what what they were. Instead, I got a long serious of opinionated garbage from ng members who wasted most of a week trying to convince me that the "old" boat was the same thing as the "new" boat. In other words, despite the fact that they had no idea what the 26M was, they still tried to put me down for giving them some specs regarding the boat. (I was only repeating Rogers advertising, they said, and the boat probably didn't really have a different hull, different keel, different sails, different ballast system, etc., etc. - I was just sucked in by MacGregor's advertising.) I asked for information, I got none, I then researched the matter and, with consideration of my wife's preferences of my wife, made the decision to get the Mac 26M. - This isn't trolling, under any rational definition. ![]() Jonathan Ganz wrote: Total bs. You can call it bs if you want to. But you are totally out of it, Johnny. I came on this board trying to get some substantive information about the new Mac 26M from anyone who had sailed one, or anyone who had discussed it with others who had sailed it. In response to my inquiries, I got NOTHING of any substance. I ended up spending days on this newsgroup trying to explain to you and your buddies that the Mac 26M did, after all, have a new hull and keel design that was, in fact, substantively changed from the older models. All I got for my troubles was more crap from ng participants who were getting more and more incensed as it became more and more obvious that they really didn't know what they were talking about, and further, that I wasn't going to let them get away with it, and wouldn't be intimidated. As previously discussed, I spent some time looking at various displacement boats in the 30 - 36 ft range, and discussed them on this ng and on cruising. At one time, I was ready to put in a deposit on the Cal 34. After considering the many positive and negative factors involved, and the prospects for using the boat in the future, mad the costs entailed, I again considered the Mac 26M. Finally, after reviewing several options and available choices, I went over each boat with my wife. - She was adamantly opposed to getting the Cal 34 because of some problems with its interior, and she preferred the new Mac 26M. At that point, on March 25, I visited the Mac dealer in the area, discussed prices and options, and placed an order. As previously noted, I am not defending the Mac as the world's greatest sailboat, and I never claimed it was suitable for blue water crossings. - I did say that it had been given a bum rap on this newsgroup, and that I was going to provide a little fresh air and balance to the discussion. (Actually, had my wife not been so turned off, I probably would have gone ahead and bid on the Cal, subject to the results of a survey.) Im totally amazed that you and some of your buddies think that this is a trolling event, that I didn't really consider boats other than the Mac, and that I'm lying about placing an order late last month, etc. I think that the real problem you are having is simply that I didn't turn tail and run when you and your buddies started your flame war and didn't obviously didn't accomplish the results you expected. - Something like 40 asa participants against one "new-guy," with some occasinal assistance. (It's also ironic that I have posted notes to the ng since 1997, and I may actually be one of the "oldies" relative to most of those now posting. In any event, it's the excitement and pleasure of sailing that counts. At least that's what I thought a few months ago. Jim |

MacBoy,
It is total bs and so are you. You're a proven liar. You got tons of substantive advice, which you rightly ignored, since you'd already bought the piece of crap boat. You can twist it all you want, but those are the facts. You had an opportunity to prove me wrong, but was unable. The FACT is that the Mac you bought is a piece of crap, and the FACT is that you're now trying to justify it. Keep at it if it makes you feel better, but that won't improve the quality of boat. You got ripped off and can't admit it to yourself or anyone else. I know from a very, very reliable source that the Mac is an incredible rip-off. But, you don't give a sh*t, so fine. Take her out on the ocean, but be sure to bring an EPIRB. You're going to need it. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "Jim Cate" wrote in message ... Jonathan Ganz wrote: Total bs. |

I posted several notes on the ng in February, at which time I was looking at several boats but hadn't made any decisions. In fact, I was looking at displacement boats in the 30-35 ft range in particular, and I was planning to make a deposit on the Cal 34, before getting the overwhelmingly negative reaction from my wife. As previously noted, I finally settled on the Mac 26M, for a number of reasons, and my order was placed March 25. There have been a number of absurd, vacuous, and probably even libelous notes posted on this ng for a number of years bashing the Macs. My intention is to see that the discussions become at least somewhat more balanced, and that the bashers begin to realize that Mac Bashing just isn't as much fun as it used to be. Keep twisting on the end of the line MacBoy. You're obviously
a liar and a fraud. Who are you shilling for? Certainly not a Mac dealer. Even they know it's a garbage boat. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "Jim Cate" wrote in message ... lengthy responses to the NG goads. Nobody gives a ****. They just want to see you dance. And ,boy, what a show! Jeff Morris fires a shot and we get the Jim Cate Two Step. Jon Ganz lobs one in and we get the Jim Cate Fandango Scott Vernon drops a bomb and we get Jim Cate doing an impression of John Belushi doing an impression of Joe Cocker.
