Default Hey MC, your guys LOST!!

I only just found out. I was sailing all weekend. Had a great time wind
15-35 sun and just a little rain. Lots of spray though! Damn hydraulic
backstay packed up. Off loaded the jack to a spinnaker winch and
stripped it. Nothing broken but half the hydraulic fluid was water! How
the hell did that get in! There's been no leakage of hydraulic fluid
that I could see. Ideas? Now that's the second reapir to be made with
the anchor capstan burning out last week! Never mind I get a new bike today!

Cheers MC

Good point, although the release valve lets the ram out slowly. Also, if
half the fluid was water where did the hydraulic fluid go??
Bike: CBR1100XX in blue check it out.

Cheers MC

Water sometimes gets in when it's released under load too quickly
particularly in cold conditions.
Fluid isn't drawn back fast enough and air/water is sucked in past the
seals.
What bike?
Got myself an Apollo LSX1.2 with the 6061T6 ally frame last year.
Great bike and light.....you wouldn't believe how light!

Hmm, does the backstay creep under load?

No
Does it have a tension guage?

Yes
No overflow on the tank or vent that may draw water or condensate?

It's a 'sealed' unit
Was the tank full, water may just be extra not replacement for fluid

I think the reservoir was full last time i topped it up...
lost.

Nice bike.....I'm not allowed to have one :-(

My pertner doesn't mind. Of course she get to inheret my $millions !
so I'm settling for the Clubman. :-)

How's the Ferrari?

Cheers MC

I topped it up as part of a routine check. Since then I've not seen one
drip of fluid...

Beats me! But why do you need to top it up if there's no loss?

Sweet,
Had it tuned a couple of weeks ago and a new exhaust system fitted, a
genuine one so it now sounds like it was built to sound.

Yes it is most odd. The trouble is that the water has attacked the
piston which is why function seems to have been lost as well as gumming
up both valves. The latter is not an issue but the piston and its
cylinder is!
