Multihull info: http://www.ussailing.org/portsmouth/...tables02mh.asp Interesting link, thanks. The first time I tried it didn't work. Would anyone out there have guessed that the D-Cat, the Formula 40s and the RC-30 are all very very close in speed, with a slight nod going to the D-Cat in heavy air and to the RC-30 in light air? I wonder where 'Cogito' rates on this scale, or S&S '87. AFAIK they are still the fastest cats by a noticable margin. Among beach cats, the Tornado still reigns apparently, except for the Marstrom 20 which is a boat I'd like very much to see. Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

I noticed the specs on that one also. Did you see these pictures of
the Marstrom 20? http://user.tninet.se/~zdt420t/m20data.htm The trend is high aspect sails, asmetrical spins, and either eliminating the jib, or making it self tending. All those factors being equal, it seems that length is the most important factor in predicting speed in a design these days. ![]() I just found this bit on the Fox iF-20. It looks like Hobie France is coming out with a 154 lb 20' cat. This should be damn fast. I didn't think manufacturer were making much effort to lighten the production cats. Weight on Cat's can be lighter, but cost and demand has kept the lighter carbon technology from being more widely used. Perhaps that is finally changing. I think many people feel that if it only weighs 150 lbs, why should it cost so much? It will take a lot more sales to distribute the the tooling cost over more units, to make these things economical, and with hull design changes coming so fast the production numbers never get high. This Hobie Fox iF-20 looks like a fine machine too. I'd like to see it in a shoot out with the Marston 20. http://www.beachcats.com/NewFiles/new%20cats.html Bart On Tue, 28 Oct 2003 13:20:01 -0500, DSK wrote: Among beach cats, the Tornado still reigns apparently, except for the Marstrom 20 which is a boat I'd like very much to see.
