![]() The pipes were about five feet long. So they are extending about 2-1/2 feet on either side of the break. Not to worry, it's been over 12 years since the repair and it's working just fine. The boom always did bend when the sheet is tightened down even before the repair. If I want to take the bend out and make the boom really strong I can fit a short strut in the middle near the break and fit a length of rigging wire to each end of the boom underneath and tighten the wire with a turnbuckle. I don't think this necessary, however. S.Simon - a Captain who's serious about sailing "Jeff Morris" jeffmo@NoSpam-sv-lokiDOTcom wrote in message news ![]() It appears that the boom is bent at the forward bail, or just forward of that. How far does the pipe extend? Are you now at risk of snapping the boom again? "Simple Simon" wrote in message ... You can see the repair in the following photo: http://captneal.homestead.com/files/Closehaul2.jpg See the lighter line forward of the aft bale. That's were the boom broke in two. The aft bale used to be right there and the boom broke where it was weakened by the (4) screws that held the bale to the boom. S.Simon - the one and only "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... Neal, could you please take a photo showing us the repair area of the boom. I don't believe you EVER made a repair. Had you done so, you would never have allowed a bend to remain. I also don't believe you're dumb enough to repair a broken spar at the expense of far greater weight when you could have easily replaced it with a proper one. RB |
