And of course as you are no more than an hour away in Builth you must get

to
Paul Morgan's shop

COCH-Y-BONDDU BOOKS
Pentrerhedyn Street,
Machynlleth,
Powys
SY20 8DJ
U.K.

Don't miss it if you've not been on previous visits (apolgies if I'm
teaching granny to suck eggs)

His site is here http://www.anglebooks.com

Thanks, Carla, I explored and learned to pronounce Machynlleth in my travels
through there in 1998, but I didn't go to that bookstore. From looking at
the link you provided, I'll almost certainly make a stop there this time.
Thanks!

Assuming I can get out of Kinshasa on Sunday, I've got reservations at the
Cammarch Hotel in Llangammarch Wells for Tuesday, but I might just find a
campsite and tent it instead. I'm free from Tuesday until Sunday, when I
need to be in Plymouth. However, I'll have wheels and I want to explore the
region a little bit. I certainly want to spend a day on the Towy, and a
couple days around Builth Wells.

Where are you at?

Aproximately 6 miles north of Swansea in the Swansea valley. It would
take me about an hour to get to Builth or Llamgamarch.

Swansea is a City on the south coast of Wales.

No, it appears to say:
'All Saxons are tubular.'

The truth of which, as I have never been to Saxony; I am unable to judge.

Cheerio,

Well after finally making telephone connection on Tuesday, I met up with
"riverman" at Brecon on Tuesday evening. we had a meal together then
took a short tour of the area around Built and Mynydd Epynt. It was
great to meet my American friend.

A fishing trip was discussed and the venue was a bit indeterminate, so I
left "riverman "to ponder where he would like to go on Wednesday.

I arrived at Brecon at about 08.45 on Wednesday morning, ant it was
decided to try the Irfon at Llangammarch Wells. Riverman had to get his
EA licence in Brecon, then we set off over Mynydd Epynt amidst Military
goings on (loud explosions etc!)

The Cammarch Hotel provided out day tickets and we fished the stretch of
the Irfon in Llangammarch Wells. The water was quite low due to the
month long dry spell we've enjoyed. Fish could be seen rising
spasmodically, but what they were taking was a mystery - possibly
something sub-surface. Riverman found a spot in the rock river bed where
there was a deep gorge and he watched and tried for a large brown trout
for some time to no avail. he later hooked one which got away. I moved
on down stream and found a stretch of water with a bit of flow in it -
making wet fly fishing a bit easier. I cast a scruffy little brownish
wet ( no name because it is one I knocked up myself) comprising some
hares ear dubbing and a brown partridge hackle and tail ( a sort of
rough March Brown variant). Anyway I spotted my fly drifting over quite
a decent fish and saw the fish rise from the bottom and sick in the fly.
I lifted into it and I netted a Grayling of about 1.5 to 2.lbs. I
brought it in as quickly as I could and released it immediately.

I had to get away later in the afternoon so we packed up at about 16.00
and returned to Brecon. Riverman was considering returning to
Llangammarch in the evening on his own to see if there was an evening
rise. This is a lovely stretch of river, and I'm sure in better water
conditions, would produced some fine fish.

I await "riverman's" report on his Welsh visit.

We had a great time.

bottom and sick in the fly.

Not a compromise between sip and suck - just an honest typo :-)

Should read "suck".
