An Allied Seawind is no Pearson Vanguard. It's far better. I recently sold one
in CA for 41K that doesn't look as good. I have to say that the sailboat market
is out of control as of late, with boats selling for really high prices. Maybe
the gas prices are effecting things. If you have a "wanted" boat, you can name
your price as of late.

Needs.
The bottom needs painting
The main saloon needs new upholstery. We have covers on it. We thought it
would be better to let the buyer choose the fabric and get it done to their
likes. We priced the boat accordingly

The boat was built in 1971 at Minnefords yard in City Island, NY. In 1973 Ted
Turner bought it. The story is, if you can't beat it, buy it! We have a cover
of 1973 Yacht Racing, with Ted at the helm of Lightnin' in some nice wind.
Anyhow, after Ted had it, 2 people owned it before my wife and her x-husband
bought it in 1979. They raced it in the Long Beach and Newport Beach areas for
8 years. Then they had a custom spruce interior put in the boat, and other work
for cruising, and sailed to Hawaii, then back to Portland, Oregon, where she
has been for the last 12 years.

Lightnin' has the safety of an aluminum hull, speed of a racing boat, and the
look and feel of a wood boat below.

The cost to build Lightnin' in 1971, was $100,000

The boat is hauled for storage in Portland, OR, at a private marina, where the
new buyer can paint the bottom, etc. Storage is only $60/mo.

We are asking $54,000 for her. REDUCED TO $42,000 OBO

S&S doesn't mean a thing. Plenty of S&S boats out there that are crap. But
Allied's are generally solid boats with a following like Westsails.

Minneford's built good boats, and certainly Vanguards were solid boats. A
Vanguard is longer, wider, more room, carries more sail, is very seaworthy and
goes about 25% of the asking price of that particular Seawind.

Besides, the wheel on a Vanguard doe not block the companion way.

Pretty boat, but she's a far different animal compared
to the Allied.

that's a fact

I'm surprised she's not sold yet, but some folks shy away from
metal boats. Lots of history for that boat!

he has been trying to push that boat for several years. Even at $42k he can't
get an offer. I couldn't imagine paying $49k for a Seawind. Four years ago
(near the height of the market) they were asking mid 20's. That one in Florida
better be sumpin perfect and one no one else has.
