FS: Westsail 32 in Seattle area
Jax, he did not hide his price in any way. Anyone interested would just click
the link, as I did. Really now! Just one click! Meanwhile, a 1979 Westsail 32 sold out of my club last year for 51K. A quick look at yachtworld shows his price is in the ballpark for these boats. Did you read about the boat? Repowered and a ton of custom work. The boats looks nice, nicer than the one I saw last year. Really nice Westsails tend to sell in the 40-50K range as a START. Sure, you may find one cheaper, but not easily. You don't have to buy his boat or even click his website, but he did nothing wrong and the webpage covers all of the details...and the price. Best of luck to your friend. RB ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rec.boats.marketplace is a moderated newsgroup. the point was the guy purposefully avoided the slightest mention of price. he
required that any and all who might even remotely be interested in his boat to work at finding out about it. That is an absolute tip-off the seller believes totally his asking price is above market price and his boat is below. This true of virtually every last product sold. Always true. Bet the ranch on it. btw, if you check the listings you will find damned few westsails are selling these days. the boats just stay listed and stay listed and stay listed. Asking prices of Westsail 32's in SF area (an economically depressed area since the dot bomb) are low $30's and no takers (similar problems with all boats in SF area now). A W-32 can be shipped SF to most anywhere in the country for $5,000 or less. The guy was looking for someone to pay over market, or the guy was hoping against hope his boat actually is over market. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, his failure to show a price upfront clearly shows he hoped to rope someone in. Jax, he did not hide his price in any way. the point was the guy purposefully avoided the slightest mention of price. he
required that any and all who might even remotely be interested in his boat to work at finding out about it. That is an absolute tip-off the seller believes I don't get your beef. The price was a mouse click away. It's not like he had you call him for it. And his price is pretty much average for a good example. His boat looks and sounds great. Jax, I'm a broker part time now. I've closed on 8 sailboats in the last 7 weeks and I know the market. I saw a Westsail sell last season and some of those boats on Yachtworld are sold. The brokers are lazy about pulling the ads down. If you can find one like this fellows, with repower and so many mods for anywhere near the price, snap it up. Westsails in the 30K range tend to have a LOT of issues. If I had a really nice repowered Westsail I'd ask 45-50 for it at least. This fellow's boat also has a new oversize tranni and redone interior. His price is an "asking" price, Jax. A smart buyer doesn't walk away, even from a high asking price. You never know what's behind it. The asking price on my C&C 32 was 35.5K. I'm sure glad I kept after it, because I ended up with her for 16K. I can't see where bothering this guy, who's done nothing wrong, is helping anything and I wish him well with his sale. Looks like a damn fine boat and the repower and bigger tranni are huge items for a serious sailor. There was one listed for 16k, but it looked like a 2-3 year labor of love or project depending which way you look at it. There was one listed for 16k, but it looked like a 2-3 year labor of love or
project depending which way you look at it. Exactly. Good boats usually cost good money. You shouldn't hassle someone because you think their boat is priced too high. A few years back I saw a Westsail 32 for mid 30's, but even that boat had issues. Westsails of good quality don't come along often and some folks will pay to avoid doing all that work themselves. I've fixed up 3 boats so far and had fun doing it. But on my next I may just be willing to "overpay" to just have a clean nice boat and go sailing! A ****ing match in a boat for sale group PRICELESS.
Bobsprit wrote: Your deliberate effort to hide the price of your boat was noticed by every last person who read your ad. EVERY LAST PERSON. Jax, seriously, what are you on about. His website listed the price clearly. It's a Westsail, not a Catalina. How does it matter, so long as the price is clearly listed somewhere, which it is? It's his boat and all prices are "asking" by definition of the seller wants to make a sale. I stand by my statement. Professionals NEVER make the prospect work for the information. In addition, failure to make even the slightest mention of price is a clear sign the seller believes he is asking an above market price for a below market boat. It ALWAYS means that. Going to look at boat advertised such a fashion means you KNOW that when you get there the boat will have many hidden problems, the boat owner will "fictionalize" about what has or has not happened to the boat, will underrepresent the problems and -- most certainly -- tell you his boat is bargain priced. The boat will fail a tight survey. Sorta like the used car your neighbor bought that turns out to have cardboard rocker panels and a differenial packed with sawdust. The seller *IS* telling you something when he somehow fails to mention price, and *IS* telling you something when he makes you dig around for information. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rec.boats.marketplace is a moderated newsgroup.
