Whatever serious challenges arise will be handled better by the Obama team then similar problems were handled by the Bush team. Bush screwed up every serious problem he faced. Obama is a brilliant speech giver, capable of appealing to the emotions of the masses. He has yet to prove that he is a brilliant politician (unless moving people to tears is all it takes, in your mind. Hell, rock bands can do that.) Harry, didn't you notice a change in Obama's tone during his press conference last week? Interestingly, it followed his first official Intel briefing. It will be hard for people like you to recognize at first, but I am willing to bet that Obama's policy concepts will begin to sound more and more like existing foreign policies. The "package" may change for effect, but the contents will be pretty much the same. Sorta like the "New, Improved" labeling on products in the store. Same stuff, different package. If you don't believe it, take a look at Congress. There you find a bunch of blowhards reciting party line rhetoric and condemnation of Bush's policies, yet, when it comes down to the wire, the money keeps getting approved by the same hypocrites to continue them. I predict that Obama will announce a few "big" changes to justify his supporter's votes. He'll call for the closure of GTMO, and he's already joined Pelosi in talking about a bailout of GM. But, the rest of the political balance of power in the world is dangerously critical and if he has any brains, changes will be slow and discrete. Oh, and if you qualify, don't hold your breath waiting for a tax break. Eisboch |
