Please cleanup your language.

You never say anything about your lover/clone's language! He's the
most gross, nasty, ill-mannered, vulgar pig around.

-----------------------------------------------------------

So...if I'm his clone, as you keep insisting, you're calling me the most
blah, blah pig around also!

Nah, lover/clones can learn differently.

To which letter do you object, Donnie? We'll see if you made the correct
assumptions or not. You seem to pick the worst possibilities. Is it
because
that's what you think of yourself?

Duh! It's supposed to be a 'BOATING GROUP', idiot...of course he'd be
admitted.

Not very "exclusive", 'eh?

Jealous?? I'm not the one buying BMWs to try and impress the neighbours.
I'd say you are the one lacking in self esteem if you have to resort to that
behaviour just to try and impress people who probably don't give a damn
about you.

You would be wrong (go figure...). Several of my neighbors have nicer
cars than I do. I happen to like BMW's so I bought two. Go drive one
and you *might* understand.

I've driven BMWs recently. Overpriced and overengineered...the perfect
car for someone who needs a car to impress people.

Nonsense. Overpriced and overengineered as compared to what? Your
reasoning is consistent with your opinion of long distance travel on a boat,
experiencing the navigation and piloting challenges and the ports visited .
You'd rather fly directly to your destination and check into a hotel.
Others, like me, would rather experience the trip on a boat. You're not
wrong, but neither am I.

Back to cars:

No question that the principle of diminishing returns applies ... just like
audio equipment. People with a tin ear don't appreciate fine speakers or
amplifiers because they can't hear or appreciate the sound quality. It
makes no sense for them to spend any more than for a cheap boombox. Fine.
But for those of us that *do* appreciate high quality music reproduction, we
invest in higher quality gear.

A well engineered car like a BMW is the same. To some, a Yugo serves the
purpose. Point A to point B. To others, the excellent engineering,
refinement and driving experience of a BMW is appreciated and enjoyed.
Different strokes for different folks, that's all.

I can relate, from personal experience, having driven the 1500 miles from MA
to FL or back many times in several different vehicles. The BMW 750 was
the only one that I could comfortably drive non-stop (other than for gas or
brief breaks) and arrive without feeling like a complete zombie. It had the
perfect combination of suspension, seating (not too soft, not too hard) and
handling to make the driving experience very enjoyable. Impossible to do
in any other car or truck I've owned, and God knows, I've had a bunch of
them.

The only BMW that I've owned that I thought was waaaaay overdone in terms
of complicated electronic controls was the '06 M5. A brand new, very
advanced design, BMW had their hands full getting the bugs worked out of the
software on that car. I understand the newer ones are much better.

But, in terms of pure, overall performance and almost perfect engineering,
they don't come close to a Porsche 911 Twin Turbo. :-)
But, I'd still never attempt a 1500 mile, non-stop trip in it.

My criteria for a car:

quality engineering and assembly.

good handling characteristics for the kind of driving I do.

good accident avoidance capabilities.

reasonable cost for parts and repairs, available from dealers who stock
just about everything my car will need.

reasonable sales price for new car.

A few weeks ago, I was looking at a new BMW 535i sedan. With a few
modest options, the sticker price was well over $60,000, about $20,000
to $25,000 more than several Japanese sedans that in my opinion have a
higher level of assembly and drive just as well.

I rarely drive long distances in a car...as, for example, from Maryland
to Florida. I have better things to do with my time than waste two days
on the interstate.

Ah, but with a BMW you could make that trip in about 16 hours.

Do those better things to do include hanging in a Usenet group(s)
for 20+ years?
